Appearance

When visible, Meyv resembles an oversized lizard with four clawed paws, and a thick, long tail. He is about thirteen feet long from head to rump. Then there's his tail, nearly as long as the rest of his body. He is feral in appearance, but has been known to show signs of emotions by mimicking the expressions of meals he has previously observed and then devoured. Although some call him a dragon, he has no wings on his back, which makes him look more like a lizard or iguana than a drake. Nevertheless, he has fangs, he's huge, and he's not a normal creature. Call him what you want, he won't be upset about it. His eyes are of a similar colour as those of his eyes; a sandy beige, with some parts of his body darker and some lighter. Excellent camouflage for the desert, if he isn't already invisible. He has a few spikes along his spine and down his tail, dull and harmless though.

One aspect of Meyv that differentiates him from lizards is his irregular anatomy. For one, he has sharp teeth, a bit like a lion's or a tiger's. Generally, his teeth are longer and sharper than those of his mammalian friends though. His maw, deep, wet, and much darker than his pale scales is the only part of his body he can't camouflage into invisibility. That means that if he yawns, or if he simply opens his jaws to snap around you, you can see his teeth and gape. His tongue is long and can stretch out to grab prey from afar. It is both prehensile and sticky, so sticky that sometimes even Meyv himself has a hard time liberating victims of inaccurate attempts to capture somebody in particular. Most of the time, the easiest thing he can do to help them out is reel them towards his jaws and swallow them up, ironically.

Abilities

What makes Meyv different from other predators is his ability to go completely unnoticed in a wide variety of settings. Like a chameleon, he can blend in with his environment when he feels threatened or when he's hunting, changing the colour of his scales to mimic the surface behind him. Meyv is actually so good with staying hidden that he can mimic actual nothingness, nearly invisible when he decides to be so. Of course, there are ways to figure out where Meyv is hiding; by splashing water on him, for example, or even worse, paint, which can turn him into a horrible predator for days!

Another less impressive but just as solicited ability is that to stretch his jaws like a snake to devour large meals. His stomach can stretch out to great proportions to fit in such prey, and his stomach can digest food rather rapidly, when such a need arises. It can also hold prey to keep them for later, in case there is shortage of food. This ability has been used in the past to keep people alive inside of him, up to months if the dragon wishes to.

As for his tongue, it can reach far outside his muzzle to pull prey into his mouth, as mentioned earlier. It sticks, it's hard to avoid, though when Meyv misses his target and his tongue hits a wall or tree, it can take a few seconds for the dragon to get it back.

While Meyv can't actually talk, he understands the languages of the lands he hunts in. He might not understand conversations about economy and certain kinds of sciences, but he will nod or shake his head when asked questions, if he feels like it, and might actually be able to learn a few words from the people he hunts, eats or befriends. Usually, Meyv is shy when around others and prefers staying hidden from strangers.

Personality

Fortunately, Meyv seems to have an actual personality of his own that allows him to understand the consequences of what he does sometimes. He is driven by a certain curiosity, often stalking his preys for hours to observe their behaviour before making contact, if actual contact is to be made.

Like many other dragons and creatures, Meyv is a glutton and has been seen devouring entire tribes in a single night, herds, or even small batallions overnight. His fast metabolism allows him to digest food quickly to move on to the next course. In certain cases, it can take only seconds before an armoured knight is turned to pulp. However, when Meyv does this, he gains just about as much energy as he burns. If given the chance, he'll digest his meal normally.

Surprisingly, Meyv has been known to keep some of his meals alive for a long while, even though most of his food is just food to be burned away. It's mostly case-by-case with Meyv, but he wouldn't ever think of digesting his friends. Unless his friends are odd and ask him to. Then it's just a favour, right?
