Alyona

Background:


Alyona lived in an area of her world akin to Eastern Europe. Her clan had some ice naga roots far back, and it made it easier for them to hide, and withstand the cold. However, they lived in a remote village to themselves, far off, and hidden a fair distance from the various governments.

Obviously people thought her kind weren't welcome for one reason or the other - so keeping track of on going politics was difficult. When she was an adolescent, this issue became lethal to her clan, and one particular person who seized power, issued a hunt on all foreign creatures. This resulted in lots of loss of life of other Elves and Nagas.

Gorgons were ruthlessly hunted down more so than others.

As their power of petrification made fleeing easier, it also made them seem more like monsters, and were hunted down by more people. She fled south with her family, where it was warmer.

Of course, Alyona ended running into another government. In order to protect her family, the young Gorgon agreed to serve as a maid to a Senator for the Empire. Her many old peasant clothes were discarded for less garments, and a few pieces of jewelry befitting someone working in such a fine house. As her family survived, they were eventually found by a society of arid-dwelling Gorgons. She even found a friend, a human boy no less who started out on a rocky relationship with her. She couldn't be happier.

Unfortunately, it wasn't to last. Alyona was in her mid twenties, and unfortunately was secretly bought by someone from the Nexus World. She was pursued, and during the confusion her human friend was dragged into the mess - causing her to accidentally petrify him. It was traumatic, and her paralysis during the pursuit from this led to her being bound and escorted away from her family, and into a world she didn't know how to escape. Though, as fate would have it, an opportunity presented her with the moment to petrify or eat all of captors.

She is still haunted by the statue she has permanently turned her one human friend into, and effort into not petrifying people on their first encounter - but she is not above using it in times of self defense. Now Alyona no longer carries buckets of water in the cold north to her village, but slithers across the vast expanse of the park, trying to find her way, either in the oddly accepting city, or the wilderness.
