Megumin was thanked for freeing the beast and was offered to have one wish granted. She started with her first wish. It was denied. She gave a second wish. It was denied. She gave a third wish. It was denied. Then she asked the question that would change her life forever. "Could you teach me the spell you used?"
Explosion is the ultimate spell. A spell more difficult to learn than the entirety of Advanced Magic. It comes from the Detonation series of spells and is the strongest of that series. This spell requires an immense amount of mana, so much so that anyone without a sufficient supply would perish from using the spell. But the trade-off for its power output is well worth it! Anything caught by the spell will most certainly be blown to smitherines. If its not reduced to ash by the explosion's heat, then the force will tear it asunder. Usually, only powerful monsters or extremely experienced archwizards know this spell and that is only because they have too many skill points to know what to do with. See, Explosion is considered a useless spell. Not only can it not be used in close quarters, but it also leaves the user completely vulnerable after use. Using it in dungeons, castles, cities, and forests are a no go. Not to mention that it takes a long time to even cast the spell in the first place. But how can a young girl like Megumin cast such a spell?

Megumin is considered a genius among them and therefore is extremely adept with magic. Even as a child, Megumin could easily break magic seals, could edit spell chants to make them stronger than before, and could understand how to cast a specific spell after viewing it once, no matter how complex it was. However, she put her focus entirely into learning the spell Explosion. As a result, it is the only spell she can cast and she doesn't die from using it! Since learning this spell, she has honed it to the point where no other caster can surpass her Explosion. Her damage output with magic is considered stronger than gods and liches, two of the most magically inclined races.

She would con people out of food and frequently go hunting for crayfish and small animals to bring home for her family to eat. Despite being a genius, Megumin was born into poverty. Food was scarce, winter was horrible, and she had only one change of clothes. Megumin believes that her upbringing resulted in her body not being as developed as her classmates and thus she eats as much as she can so she could grow in different areas.
After graduating at the age of 12 and spending a year trying to scrounge up enough money to teleport to Alcanrentia, Megumin taught the Axis Cult underhanded tactics to recruit new members into their church. Her adorable stature ended up catching the eye of a priestess named Cecily who would stalk Megumin during her time there. After renovating the church's hotsprings, she was paid handsomly and was able to afford a carriage to the town of Axel where she believes the cloaked lady that saved her resided.
Arriving in Axel, Megumin swiftly made a name herself and garnered a reputation as the "crazy Crimson Demon girl with a few screws loose" and soon enough ended up without a party. Everyone saw her as useless thanks to her only spell being an incredibly horrible investment. She was stuck in a town she didn't know with one friend and a priestess who wanted nothing more than to get in her skirt. Once again she was starving and she couldn't go hunting for food... One last time she tried to join a party. She walked toward the table where a man in strange clothes and a beautiful blue haired girl sat... And wouldn't you know! She found a party!
These two adventurers were Kazuma and Aqua. Together, the trio made a very dysfunctional party. A leader with the weakest class, an archpriestess with the intelligence of a rock, and an archwizard who could only cast one spell. Eventually, the group hired Darkness, a Crusader who cannot hit things and wanted to be hit. While this party was absolutely garbage at first, soon enough, they all learned how to make up for each other's shortcomings thanks to Kazuma's leadership. Together, they took on many of the Demon King's Generals and somehow came on top. They were strong as long as they were all together. One missing member could destroy the whole team. And Megumin knows that the best of anyone.

When she casts it, she falls over and cannot move for a good couple of minutes as her mana and energy is completely drained. Megumin is rather sensitive on the subject of her name, getting extremely aggressive when someone is fearful of her just from her name alone. When excited, Megumin's eyes with begin to glow as mana courses through her body. Megumin will do nearly anything for food and will scarf anything that is presented to her as such down, aside from slime. Megumin loves the Explosion spell so much that if she was offered a meal in exchange for her not using Explosion for that day, she would eat the food and then cast Explosion after.

What are Crimson Demons? To put it simply, they are just modified humans. Long ago, a scientist was tasked with creating a group of people that were strong enough to take on the Demon King. The scientist, decided to make a race of humans that were so intelligent, that they could use advanced magic at an extremely early age. Of course, he needed volunteers and it turns out, the only people who would be willing to be experimented on to gain an untold amount of magic power are complete psychos. Absolutely every single one of the voluneers were obsessed with looking cool and sounding cool. When the experiment was a success and this group of humans were blessed with extreme magic prowess, they desired a new name. They didn't want to just be called humans. Thus, the scientist just quickly made up the name "Crimson Demons" and the experiments just ate it up! They wore that name with pride! The Crimson Demons eventually established a village where they ended up thriving. Their magic made their lives so much easier, most of their jobs involved magic in some way. Whether it be farming, cooking, tailoring, you name it! Heck, the Crimson Demons would even adjust the weather to their liking. Their culture consisted of having strange names that (to them) sounds cool and acting as cool as they can. Children within the village are sent to a magic academy within the village to learn Advanced Magic. Once they spend points on a magic, they graduate. This includes basic magic, intermediate magic, and useless magic. However, it is prefered that they learn Advanced Magic as it is really easy for a Crimson Demon to attain. All Crimson Demons are Archwizards due to their magic prowess, even the children (who start out knowing no spells). To outsiders, they're a strange people with childish priorities. But anyone who knows of Crimson Demons respects their magical strength.

It causes a massive explosion depending on how much the spell is invested into and devastates nearly any foe. What could possibly be a downside for that? Well, for one thing, it's a single spell that costs more to learn than it costs to unlock Advanced Magic (which provides more utility). The spell also cannot be used in small spaces, being used in dungeons will more than likely cause a cave-in. On top of all of that, Explosion costs so much mana that casting it would kill most people. Those who can cast it (such as Megumin) are often left immobile after casting. Only extremely high level monsters are able to cast the spell without collapsing. Thus, the spell is considered completely useless. Only high level archwizards or monsters with extra skill points left over would buy the spell and even if they did have it, they would likely never use it. However, Megumin has only this spell and invests all of her skill points into making it faster and stronger.
