Slimes are a fairly dynamic and flexible species, capable of shifting the goo that makes up their entire body around, growing, shrinking, altering their curves... all sorts of fun for a liquid-based woman. Of course, on very rare occasion... these sorts of things can get twisted, leading to a shapeshifting creature with a far greater range of forms.

Arrae started her life as a slime, a small one, that grew rapidly, proving to have an appetite to put even some of the more gluttonous members of her species to shame. The slime, after years of growth, would have slipped off to a cave to live for some time, a cave with rumours based around it, of a legendary weapon buried deep within... making it a perfect trap, the slime simply devouring any adventurer unfortunate enough to go after the legend. Eventually, the rumours changed, shifting to stories of a terrifying slime, a guardian to the weapon... though, in truth, Arrae herself didn't give a toss about the weapon, instead focusing only on her food. Things progressed much the same, for about forty years... until a particular adventurer wound up entering her cavern.

The slime didn't really care about species, gender, age, or anything... just that it was covered in meat, and thus a good meal. Lunging rather quickly, her entire mass sucking in the poor adventurer with ease, the slime began to digest, rather easily shrugging off electrical blasts from the mage, absorbing his entire body into her... before, just before he passed... he tapped into the abundant energies of a crystal he had found some months ago, and with that energy, wound up casting a blast that was far more than either of them was prepared for.

Magic lightning, twisted into a chaotic, unpredictable state, ripped through the pair, the slime's mind being shut down... and, several days later, she awoke... to the sight of skin covering her.

The lightning had shredded the genetic coding of her slime, and wound up patching in the only possible replacement - human DNA, from her victim. The pair wound up bonded together, sharing a body... and warping Arrae's body, turning her from a simple slime, into a full-blown shapeshifter, still able to utilize the consistency of a slime, and the flexibility... along with a much greater range of transformation.

Nowadays, she wanders the land, along with the adventurer she now shares a body with... luckily for them, it only took a few years for the pair to get over her attempt to devour him, leaving the pair as an odd, yet surprisingly functional pair, Arrae's skill and strength, combined with a mage's arcane power and knowledge. Arrae is still quite the glutton when her personality is at the front, the mage being the smaller, male, and far less impulsive of the two, often the one in control when the pair are in town.

A slime plus a human equals a shapeshifter, somehow!
