Averi

You take one look at Averi and you think 'mage', immediately, right? Well, not exactly.

Look closer. That staff's no ordinary staff.

Background

Averi is a British born girl in her mid 20s. From an early age, she had always wanted a useful profession. The town, Holborn, was in a somewhat centralized location on the continent. As a result, it was often a target by any enemy invaders or malicious creatures. But the worst were not dragons...but rather creatures known as Magidiablos. These tough creatures were blue skinned, four armed beasts that could raze a town single handedly. No amount of brute force could pierce it's tough hide. Only magic based force could damage one, but due to the rarity of mages, it was not uncommon for them to go unopposed on their assaults.

That didn't stop Averi from trying, of course. From the age of 5 she had enrolled herself in a school for mages, but it never worked out. Sure, she could handle the basic spells, but go up beyond that and she was a total failure. She knew what to do, but try as hard as she could, she couldn't even conjure up a fire attack. She was doomed to failure, but failure wouldn't make for an interesting story, would it?

While she wasn't good at summoning magical energies on her own, she was good with following directions. In the potion and chemistry classes of her school, she would receive much higher marks. Unlike her magic studies, she would actually produce something of substance, even if it wasn't quite right. On accident, she would often produce useful potions she'd never even seen the instructions to, and some chaotic ones.

Seeing her talents, her teachers changed her class schedule to focus more on this, and the rest is history.

Now she is more along the lines of what you'd consider an alchemist...or a weird combination of one and a mage.

Personality/Info

That staff Averi carries around is indeed special, as it is the core component of all of her abilities. She carries all her useful chemicals on her belt, and pours them into the top end of the staff, and simply mixes them using centrifugal force. It's not as easy at it sounds, but it will often produce either a potion, or a magical energy that can be released.

Problem is, she isn't THAT awesome at it. It's enough for her to get by, but when there's hundreds of different mats that can be used for different things, it's easy to screw up under pressure, or even just from being plain ditzy. In fact, she has a habit of making things worse. Something as simple as volunteering to cure a cold can result in pneumonia, or even something random as turning the poor person into a frog. It's a slight bit of a crap shoot with her. She apologizes with every mistake. She just wants to help after all! And sometimes she even screws herself over.

And whatever you do, stay away from her in her experimental moods. She might end up destroying half the neighborhood out of pure curiosity and only have a 'Sorry!' to show for it. Nobody dares to tell her no, lest she gets upset and turns them into a roach...

On the other side of things, she's absolutely weak without any alchemy, and will kick and scream the whole way.
