Badhbh

"I'm made of bones, of the branches, the boughs and the brow beating light
Well my feet are the trunks and my head is the canopy
And my fingers extend to the leaves in the eves

And a bright, brighter shine
It's my shine"
-The Queen's Rebuke

There are few places left in this world that are truly wild, truly of a time before man. Man with his axe and his plow and most importantly of all with his iron has banished the wild to the furthest ends of the Earth. Forests have been tamed, fields have been planted. The world has been domesticated. But man still fears that which came before him. He remembers what hides underneath the hills, what lurks in rings of mushrooms and stalks the liminal places of the world. Long before mankind woke from their dreamless slumber the Fair Folk lived in abundance. They danced and sang with wild abandon beneath the summer sun, freed from the shackles of mankind's moral mindset. The cursed iron changed that. It burned to the touch and when mankind awoke the Fae were driven back. Driven back but not driven out. The wilds may be rare but they are not gone for good. Everyone's heard of a place where a bit of the old world still exists. A tree that sits in the middle of a farmer's field that he will not remove lest he disturb those that live beneath it. A ring of mushrooms that mothers warn their children not to go to near to. A forest where no woodsman dares fell a tree. These places still exist because mankind remembers the Fair Folk and fears them. They fear what once was and may some day be again.

There exists still, if the legends hold true, a few great courts of the Fae on Earth. These places are well hidden by glamour and illusion so that man may not see them. They are vast, untouched pockets of wilds were the old ways still hold sway, where the laws of reason are not as solid and often where time holds no meaning. It is in these places where you will find the Fae Courts, and it is in these Courts where you will find the Fae Royalty, the greatest of Fair Folk. Badhbh reigns over the Autumn Court as its Queen, holding power over the ending of all things and the preparation for the long winter ahead. Hers is a time of both abundance and dire urgency, the time of the harvest and massive feasts. Her court lies in the center of an ancient and untouched forest, and untouched for good reason. Badhbh, you see, has power over her realm to such an extent that every bit of her queendom is a facet of herself. She knows all that goes on in it, for she is every tree, every rock and every blade of grass. Her roots run deep and every branch of the forest bends to her whim. She has little paitence for those who would attempt to harm her realm, but frequently lets humans "discover" her queendom. After all, she is the Queen of the Harvest and there's always room for another dish on the table.
