Description:
A bookish Dokkaebi from Korean mythology, born and raised as part of the lower, oppressed castes of fantastical creatures, but eager and willing to rise above both her short physical and societal stature to accomplish great things! Baekya is a Dokkaebi, or “Goblin”, creatures spawned as personifications of inanimate objects, similar to the Tsukumogami of Japanese mythology. Prone to both trickery and mischief, but also occasionally kindness and diligence, these Goblins love nothing more than to play with humans in various ways. Despite their relatively impressive powers and their good relationship with humanity, Dokkaebi still remain low on the hierarchy in the great Celestial Bureaucracy. Ever since Baekya was first born from an old abandoned pen and pergament, she realised that her kin had been looked down upon by gods and other mythological beings. Not content to remain with the downtrodden dregs of the fantastical world, Baekya used her powers over writing to magically rewrite the mystical contracts that decided her place in the celestial hierarchy.

Next, along with more friends and peers she had liberated, the Dokkaebi set out to alter or destroy as many symbols and artifacts of the Heavenly laws as possible. Whether rewriting, vandalizing or burning them, she knew now that she possessed the power to liberate her kin and comrades, the power to wage her own little war against the heavens with alongside her companions. Together they have dubbed themselves the Eiyuldan, or Band of Heroes. They're a group Baekya shares a very close bond to and she's often eager to bring more and oppressed subjects of the Celestial Bureaucracy together in order to oppose the tyrannical feudal administration that chokes the life of all lower ranking fantastical beings. As of yet, nobody particularly high up in said Bureaucracy has cared much to go squash this little vandal, but as the Eiyuldan continues to grow and Baekya lashes out at greater and greater targets, she may soon find herself up against some serious foes.

The diminutive anarchist is easily recognizable as a goblin, what with her short stature, stubby horns and powerful supernatural aura. Her facial features are noticeably soft and cutesy compared to the kind of grim visages her species are usually said to have. Atop her head is a rather unkempt mop of black hair, as she's not particularly fond of combing or tying it up. She's never seen anywhere without her satchel of books, notes and pens. She also sometimes dons a pair of reading glasses, not that she needs them, she just thinks that they’re cute.

The clothing she wears is fairly normal for a Dokkaebi to don, a traditional Hanbok in pale, pink colours. It’s sewn to be looser and easier to move in. Baekya usually either walks barefoot or in sandals. She often wears a bamboo hat with a china pink flower in it, it's quite good for hiding her horns when needed.

Despite being free of both of the Celestial Bureaucracy’s bonds, she is not exactly an almighty creature. Her powers come from being able to subvert and reinterpret the rules of physics, magic and society. This magic most Dokkaebi are quite capable of wielding by using their Bangmangi, a spiked metal club that is both good for spellcasting and whacking people with. Baekya is uniquely gifted however, her former life as a pen and her penchant for books has helped build her magical potential into something truly impressive. Whilst the easiest trick in the book is still to literally tear up the contracts and rules that bind magic together, if she’s given ample time to prepare she can cook up a few spells and rituals of her own. Despite her savvy though, she can still be beaten at her own game and outsmarted in the arts of precise wording and magical clauses, much like any fantastical creature. When magic fails, she can still rely on her surprisingly powerful raw strength and her aptitude for brawling and wrestling.

Baekya is a diligent, ambitious and stubborn individual. Despite her philosophical and ideological views she usually avoids being overtly political in conversation. Yes she can be a blabbermouth and get neurotically obsessed with niche elements of philosophy, magic and theology, but she tries to reign herself in and be polite. If faced with injustice, intolerance or just plain rudeness however, she’s swift to pull out her club and start smashing whatever stands in her way, perhaps all too rashly. She is, despite these flaws, still the centerpiece of the Eiyuldan and in truth actually one of its less extreme members. Even if the ambitious Dokkaebi does seriously revel in inspiring revolution with her written words and at the end of a spiked club.
