Bibby was born in a small tribe in a tropical island much like Madagascar. There are few large predators; her tribe was the dominant tribe on the island. They co-existed with their more feral kin, the Coati. Depending on one another for help with food, grooming, agriculture, and protection, both the Dromaji and the coatis lived in relative peace. That was until their little home was discovered by a more "developed" nation. Bibby's people were seen as savages and the imperialists saw it as their job to civilise and educate them.

Many of Bibby's people died, including her parents. She was left orphaned by the diseases that her people were exposed to from the foreigners. When all of this happened, she was ten years old; old enough to understand what was happening, but not old enough to do anything about it or really be on her own. She was one of many children taken and adopted out by the "civilised" newcomers.

Bibby has been trying very hard to integrate into the new world she was introduced to, but she still understands very little about it. She has managed to learn to understand the language spoken when listening, but her ability to speak it is poor and her ability to read it is non-existent. Over-all, she prefers to stay quiet and listen, as her language mistakes make her feel insecure and anxious.
