The time of princess’s and kingdoms had passed, the world once so bright and cheerful slowly spiraling down towards the cold reality of steel, a world little Blackjack was born into, her first sight the massive iron plug slamming shut, sealing her fate into Stable 99.
An invention of Stable-Tec, the vault was meant to keep the innocent people of equestrian safe from the harsh war raging above them…however, this was not to be. Little Blackjack learned this first when she was taken from her mother’s arms, it would be the last time she saw her, as the tiny filly was pushed into the dorms with her fellow children, ready to serve their new purpose. The vault, after all was never meant to spare those within, but to test them, train them, sacrifice them.
Little Blackjack, however, held on in this harsh world, her talent and luck holding firm as she pushed herself through every test, every challenge, waiting, watching. One day, after her usual custom of cleaning out the staff in a game of chance little Blackjack heard that her “final” test was coming up. Knowing that it was now or never Blackjack did what she did best…played the odds, and raced to escape the vault.
As the sun rose the following day, it would be greeted by the hangered from of Blackjack as she staggered out of the vault, her body shaking, as she hobbled forwards, one of her legs hanging worthless under her as she looked up, feeling the warm of the sun for the first time in her life. For that one moment, the filly found herself at piece…then however, the world behind her erupted in flam and steel as the vault was burnt out of the earth by its own protocols, those villains within vanishing in a ball of radioactive fire that sent the filly flying down the Cliffside, her consciousness fading just as she came to rest before a group of pony’s dressed in a mixture of lab coats and mechanical armor.
It would be later when Blackjack returned to the waking world, her body feeling heavier than she remember, as she moved to lift her hoof, only to see steel rising before her. Soon she would learn that her escape had cost her more than she knew, all four of her legs having been replaced with cold steel and iron, her body now as much machine as mare.
Despite this Blackjack regretted nothing, she had earned her freedom, and with her new body she set off back to the vault smiling at the blasted crater knowing that at the very least she’d beaten the odds once more. Now wondering the waists, her legend growing by the day, of the steel legged pony. If you see her, expect to gain a friend, lose your horse shoes, or if you’re very foolish, learn why the odds always favor the house when dealing with Blackjack.
