BACKGROUND:
The story of Melinda Roddicker is a study in a person pushed too far. Melinda was a, to put not to fine a point on it, unattractive girl all her life. The world is stacked in favor of the beautiful, apathetic to the plain, and is overtly hostile to those that are ugly. Doubly so if they are also female. But Melinda was a bright girl; extremely so in fact. She suffered her way through school, high school, and college unloved and ostracized, but performing brilliantly despite adversity. Do your best, she was always told, and everything will always work out.

Melinda became a brilliant biochemist. She got a job as a researcher with the Bara Corporation, and was sequestered away in a low-key lab where money was thrown at her hand over fist and results were achieved in response. Everything was going decently well, until one day. Something happened. A stone too many was thrown, a last straw was snapped, a final die was cast... and Melinda swore revenge on all of the beautiful people of the world. Who knows what the incident was that brought in the change in Melinda, but either way a line was crossed and Melinda was a changed woman.

Melinda began experimenting upon herself with the new reconstructive cosmetics being developed by BaraCorp, for the military. They were intended for major reconstructive surgery of gravely wounded soldiers, and the effects were profound. Melinda became a beauty overnight... but she was left changed. Her skin turned waxy, her blood changed color, she began to sprout leaves and petals in her hair...

As more extreme changes started to set in, Melinda became able to grow vines from her body, to make plants grow and sprout around her, and other, more disturbing things. Though she outwardly looks fairly human, it is merely a shell, because underneath her skin her anatomy is fundamentally different.

And then, she turned on her co-workers.

She locked down the building and began hunting her coworkers down, one by one. Those she deemed 'useful' she dragged off for use in her on-going and increasing more deranged 'experiments'. Those that were not useful were simply devoured. And those that were particularly hated suffered even worse fates that I'll not bother to trouble you with describing.

Calling herself the 'Blue Rose', Melinda now rules over the abandoned laboratory like a queen, sitting upon her throne of thorned vines and sweet blossoms. BaraCorp covered the incident up and the site now has a 'ghost house' type reputation as a place where people mysteriously vanish. Because those that do brave the terrors of the old lab enter into the Blue Rose's territory... and she is a jealous and merciless monarch!

PERSONALITY:
The Blue Rose is a merciless monster that's obsessed with both her work and revenge against an uncaring world. A lifetime of persecution combined with a number of unsafe biological practices have eroded parts of her brain (and this is not always figurative, mind you) and re-written parts of her DNA. The result is that the Blue Rose is an inhuman monster (in both the figurative and literal sense), possessing neither pity nor mercy.

The obsessive need to 'conduct science' all but consumes the Blue Rose. The experiments she conducts are increasingly horrorific and increasingly unscientific in nature. She is, to put it bluntly, taking people and turning them into bioweapons via alterations to their DNA. She has developed a particular virus called the 'L-Virus' which attacks and alters the human DNA, leaving unpredictable modifications in it's wake. Even similar strains of the L-Virus often have wildly different results from person to person; the Blue Rose does not understand why, though she suspects it has something to do with latent, unmapped genes within the human DNA. She figures if she processes enough subjects she'll be able to isolate why; it is Mengele-style research at it's most foul.

The Blue Rose, thankfully, rarely leaves her lab. Much of the time her obsession leads her to sequester herself for weeks upon end, relying upon photosynthesis and water absorption for nutrition. For her, genius has become madness. She often slides between screaming ecstasy, wailing moroseness, and maniac fury depending on how her 'research' is progressing. Interrupting her is tantamount to a death sentence... or worse.

The Blue Rose hates beautiful people and has a particular vehemence for other women. To her mind, they are the source of all of her pain and misfortunes, and she is extremely cruel in the exacting of what she calls 'justice' but is simply petty revenge for real and imagined slights. She is, however, rather 'hands-off' in her approach, preferring to observe her victims through the lab's security system, occasionally taunting them via the intercomm. She prefers to watch as the various traps and monsters she's created do their job, taking notes for future changes to the laboratory. We wouldn't want to make it too easy now, would we? No, we would not.

Most of the unfortunate women lured to the lab are devoured by some monster or another, though there are worse fates then simply this. Some monsters have (over)active sexual drives, others spin webs or cocoons, some of them are ovipositors, and other, stranger things have been known to crop up from time to time. The Blue Rose does not particularly care how her victims end up, so long as they're terrified. The well and truly unfortunate, however, get isolated from all the horrors by the Blue Rose herself, for use as an experiment. These pitiable souls spend the rest of their lives in the lab, bestially hunting down other victims the way they themselves were once hunted. It is a sad fate, indeed.

In the rare event that the Blue Rose does leave her lab, it is usually because she is out on the hunt. Either for supplies she can not synthesize herself, or for inventive new genetic material for experiments. Or, of course, to find new victims. Of particular note, the Blue Rose hates cheerleaders.

LIST OF EXPERIMENTS: The following is a brief (and by not means complete) list of possible encounters within the lab. If you have a specific request to encounter one in a scene, by all means please let me know. Or... you can let me 'surprise' you.

Number 4: A masculine humanoid that's had both komodo dragon and gorilla DNA grafted into itself via the L-Virus. 'Gifted' with titanic strength, it is a fast and powerful predator. It is deployed like a sledgehammer and, like a sledgehammer, is big, blunt, powerful, and stupid. It prefers to run down prey, batter down resistance, and throw them down it's throat without any fanfare.

Number 15: The Blue Rose wondered if she could make an aquatic creature survive on land. She counts Number 15 as a partial success. Formerly a female coworker, the now-cthuloid looking horror is a writhing mass of tentacles seeking to molest others to cope with it's own pain.

Number 19: Not even the Blue Rose remembers who or what Number 19 was before the L-Virus was introduced into its system, just that the process went awry somehow. Number 19 is little more then an animate mass of goo that sweeps over things unfortunate enough to be in its path, drawing them into itself, and a dissolving them like some kind of mobile stomach. Blue Rose tolerates its existence because it helps keep the hallways clean, for a given value of clean.

Number 23: When Number 23 was a human, it was known for having a particularly 'crabby' personality. The Blue Rose has a sick sense of humor, and used the L-Virus as a vector to add actual crab DNA to this creature. A skittering mass of heavy chitin plates, Number 23 has a pair of strong claws on it's primary arms and a second set of fine manipulation pinchers on it's weaker arms.

Number 27: Number 27 was one of the Blue Rose's most hated coworkers. Now she is one of the Blue Rose's favorite experiments. Number 27 is a frog-like ambush predator, preferring to lie in wait and attack when prey is helpless or unwary. It has several advantages in its own habitat, but is actually one of the weaker horrors roaming the labs and has a tendency to flee if it feels it doesn't have the advantage.

Number 28: Sometimes the Blue Rose wants things captured alive instead of killed and eaten. In these rare occasions, Number 28 is sent to retrieve them. A towering behemoth of cornified flesh and wood, this bioweapon looks like a giant, hellish tree. It's lumbering and slow, but inexorable, continuing to hunt long after anything sane or rational would have given up. It batters down resistance with it's crushing fists, and stuffs unfortunates into the sticky rosin sap in it's hollow trunk, so that they can be carried back to the Blue Rose, where their suffering truly begins.

RP HOOKS!
The Dare!: Students at the local HS/college dare one or more of their own to spend a night in the 'haunted' labs... only to find out the stories are true!

S.T.A.R.S.: Police/Baracorp Mercs/Foolish Adventurers break into the labs to shut down the horror for good... but can they survive?

Any Port In A Storm: You know this one. Taking shelter from inclimate weather, our heroine enters the spooky looking abandoned lab on the hill, only to find...!

Abduction: You pass out and when you wake up, you're in the middle of a ruined lab, surrounded by horrors and taunted by the Blue Rose's shrill voice on the intercomm... can you escape or will you fall victim in this sadistic game?

The Trap: You've been summoned to an innocent enough sounding lab... perhaps you were offered a job as a secretary or researcher, or you're a call-girl, or just delivering a pizza. But when you arrive, you find that you're trapped!

ADDITIONAL INFO
Though Blue Rose is the character bit, my intent is to her as more of a scene enabler, or as a 'dungeon crawl'. I expect many, if not most scenes will be some poor unfortunate, running the gauntlet that is the lab, desperately attempting to escape or achieve some other objective while a random menagerie of horrors attempts to eat, mate with, oviposit, ravage, or otherwise inflict upon her any number of unsavory things that my deranged mind can think up.

THE LOST AND THE DAMNED
5Aug2013 - Delivering a pizza, Wilma_ had several close calls in the labs, before being captured by Number 28 and delivered to the Blue Rose herself; she was promptly fed to a plant and digested over a period of weeks.

Never/Dislike I favor post length that is appropriate to the situation at hand. There are times when a single line is more powerful then a paragraph, and times when a paragraph is needed. Let's ballpark things at a 'medium' length and go from there as needed.
