Caala
As her serpentine form slithered away from the castle for the final time, Caala only had one thought: Hogwarts wasn't all it was cracked up to be.
Sure, classes were great. She hadn't finished at the top of her class, but she was a Ravenclaw. That opened doors for you in life after Hogwarts. At least, it usually did. Caala had failed to make many friends during her years of study.
She spent them mostly in the library, pouring over the ancient books. Rotting parchment had been like perfume to her, and she missed meals as often as not, lost in the ancient tomes.
It was easy to do - Caala had no family. Orphaned at birth, the school had become a new home for her. What wasn't easy was the teasing, the laughter - Slytherins mocking her for being an orphan, Gryffindors knocking her books out of her hands.
One of those books, however, would change her life. She became fascinated with Animagi - people who could change into an animal at will. She learned that some had even managed to master this ability while in school, and she committed herself to doing the same - imagine! Changing into an animal, unnoticeable, silently slipping away when the bullies drew near.
It wasn't until her final year that it happened. It seemed like every other attempt at first - then she noticed her legs were stuck together, growing longer, and now they were a smooth, silver and blue scaled tail. Her arms seemed heavy, then they were melding to her side as the scales slipped over her whole body. She stared curiously at the huge snake in the mirror, green eyes shining in the lamplight. She was a serpent.
Hardly what she had imagined... but she was thrilled. The night before Christmas Break, the school went on lockdown as the teachers searched for several students missing from Gryffindor and Slytherin. They weren't found.
Caala didn't save room for treacle tart.
