Backstory

Carlyle was born in a town that is known of to very few who live outside of it. It was a town intentionally hidden away from outside eyes, as the town's inhabitants knew that if their location were known, they would come under attack because of fear from the outside. This is because of the fact that everyone who lived in that village was a komodotaur, like Carlyle. And to other sentient beings such as humans and various kinds of anthros that populated the known lands, komodotaurs were scary.

Carlyle was raised in this town, and he was a happy child. Much like the rest of daily life in that town, Carlyle was carefree, yet at the same time he did his share to sustain the town using what limited space there was available to farm. He was diligent in his work, and he was always trying to impress his elders by taking on more difficult tasks. He even learned some of the druidic arts that were practiced in the town. In that sense, he was a normal komodotaur.

This all changed for Carlyle on one fateful night as a young adult. There was nothing particularly special about that night; it was just like every other night in the town. However, on that fateful night, Carlyle dreamed. Now, normally this wouldn't be so strange. Komodotaurs dreamed every time they went to sleep, just like most other sentient species did. The main difference here was that Carlyle's dream was beautiful; so much so that attempting to describe it in words would be pure blasphemy. Had this simply stopped that night, perhaps things would have turned out differently for Carlyle. However, the dream that had so captured him started popping into his head every night when he went to sleep... and the more he saw that dream, the more he became dissatisfied with the appearance of reality.

Carlyle rapidly turned from the nice and enthusiastic komodotaur he had once been to a gruff, grumpy, and condescending one. What he had seen in his dreams had become his standard for true beauty, and everything less was an eyesore to him; that is to say he considered everything in the world to be ugly. Now, Carlyle had gotten used to everything around him being ugly, and he was able to tolerate it... although he did voice his opinion on how things looked frequently. As such, he was able to get by in life, but not without the other komodotaurs growing to dislike him.

Then came the annual ball that was held to celebrate the coming of age of young komodotaurs. Carlyle himself was among those coming of age, transitioning from being simply a young adult, which in komodotaur society was the same as an old boy, to being a full grown man. The ceremony went off without a hitch, and then the dancing started. Carlyle tried his hardest to stay on the edges of the dance floor, as every potential dance partner was an eyesore to him. This didn't last very long, though, as a female spotted him from across the floor and approached him. Her peers considered her to be the most beautiful and eye-catching female of her age group; perhaps the most beautiful in the entire town. And Carlyle had caught her eye. The highly vain girl asked Carlyle to dance with her, citing her unparalleled beauty as a reason why it would be an honor to do so. But Carlyle scowled, and he said those damning words:

"Compared to what I've seen in my dreams, you are nothing".

The hall went silent, and every other komodotaur stared at him, dumbfounded. The female was angry, and unfortunately for Carlyle, she was also a witch. She mumbled some archaic words and then hit him over the head with a dream-catcher. Then came the shouts, the boos, and the protests. He was chased out of the ball, and he had barely enough time to grab his walking stick before he was chased out of the village itself. His first night away from the town, he realized that the female he had rejected had cursed him; she'd robbed him of his dreams, so that he could no longer be satisfied with their beauty. Accepting the fact that he could never return to the town, and feeling emptiness without his dreams, Carlyle set his sights on the horizon and ventured onward. He had a new goal in mind: to find beauty in the real world that could compare to that of his former dreams.

Komodotaur Physiology and Anatomy

Physically speaking, Carlyle doesn't have very much that distinguishes him from other komodotaurs from his town. As such, this description of Carlyle's physiology and anatomy applies to most of this rare species; at least the ones from his town are represented.

Upper Body
Carlyle's upper body is humanoid in shape, though many of its features are less akin to those of a human, and are more akin to its less-developed cousin, the komodo dragon. His upper body is covered by a weave of many small scales, which results in skin that is coarse to the touch and extremely durable. These scales all have a dark grey color. The muscles in his abdominals, chest, and arms are clearly defined, and are well-proportioned to Carlyle's own size. Carlyle's hands are covered in scales and black claws in lieu of fingernails. However, aside from those two komodo dragon-like aspects, his hands are similar to those of a human; he has four fingers and a thumb on each. Moving upward on Carlyle's body, his neck has a similar structure to that of a human. However, the similarities end at the head. His head is almost entirely identical to that of a komodo dragon: long and slender, with brown eyes on either side of his head. He has a long, forked tongue which he uses to aid his sense of smell; when used in tandem with his nostrils, it gives him a sense of smell that is vastly greater than that of a human. Carlyle's mouth is lined with sharp teeth, which he only uses for self-defense; they remain unused during mealtime. Also inside his mouth is saliva ridden with many kinds of nasty bacteria. This cocktail of pathogens is not deadly; rather, it functions as a paralytic that takes affect mere minutes after it is exposed to the blood stream of a human (this time may vary by victim species).

Lower Body
As is typical of tauric species in general, Carlyle's body below his waist is very similar to, albeit significantly larger than, that of his cousin species, the komodo dragon . It is covered with the same small, dark grey scales that cover his upper body, and his skin has the same course feel and durability. His legs all originate from the side of his lower body, and they protrude outward before they bend at the knee and extend toward the ground. Each four-toed foot has long black claws which are used to gain traction with the ground; as such, Carlyle can run very quickly if he means to. One significant difference in his lower body anatomy to that of a komodo dragon is his tail. His tail has several ball-and-socket joints along its length, making it extremely flexible and allowing Carlyle to move it around freely: an asset Carlyle often uses in capturing prey.

Special Subsection - Genitalia
Carlyle's genitalia, at least on a basic level, are similar to those of many animals. He has a cock which leads to a pair of testes, and these all function in the same way as expected, and which are positioned between his hind legs. His cock eighteen inches long and six inches in diameter when fully erect, which is to be expected given the size of his body and the size of komodotaur females, and has a 'knot' on it. What is peculiar, however, is the cock's behavior when flaccid. It shrinks drastically in this state to be barely larger than a human's erect penis; in contrast, the sheathe into which it withdraws is absurdly large. Carlyle also has the ability to 'inflate' the knot in his cock and keep it stuck inside of whatever mate he has, even when arousal has faded. He seems particularly fond of using this ability with average-sized human or similar females and pulling them entirely into the sheathe for future mating. However, the sheathe does have many layers of scales that appear to be folded over one another, indicating that its capacity is in fact much larger than his usual cargo.

Personality
Five whole years after he was chased out of the hidden village of his youth; after five whole years of searching for the beauty that he had once known in his dreams, Carlyle is very much like he was before he had been chased out. Carlyle is gruff, and he has little respect for how anything looks. When he is around people, no matter what the species, Carlyle always seems condescending of those people. This is because he finds them, like everything else in the world, to be eyesores. If asked to give his opinion on how something looks, or if any positive statement on the appearance of something or someone is mentioned, Carlyle would be quick to disagree.

That being said, unlike before, Carlyle doesn't just go around insulting the beauty of things and people at every opportunity like he used to do. During his travels through the world he considers ugly, he has learned to restrain himself and his opinions to an extent, and to tolerate the way things are. He is still a very long way to go from actually appreciating any of it, but it could be said that he's made some progress.

Despite his condescending attitude, Carlyle can actually be quite nice if he wants to be. He can deal with people in a civil manner and talk to them normally. Of course, it helps if he doesn't have to look directly at them. When that condition is met, one would find that Carlyle is fairly outgoing and perhaps even friendly. When called upon to do so, he'll listen to one's worries and even offer some sage advice that he'd learned in his years of searching.

That said, he still considers others to be inferior to himself, and he holds no qualms about asserting himself over whoever he meets, and making use of them in whatever manner he sees fit. The superiority thing is what he'd say is the reason behind the way he acts. The truth of the matter, however, is that a feeling of emptiness; his longing to fill the void left when his dreams were taken; still plagues him, and he's taking it out on the world.

"With these legs I will keep on walking. I will keep on searching. And I will not stop until I have found something worth stopping for." -Carlyle
