CivilizedCannibals

An AllIn1 Alt

UPDATE 2013-5-31: Added two old characters I forgot existed!

The Hulke tribe are exactly what the character handle would make you think--a prototypical rainforest tribe, but intelligent and cultured. Robert Hulke, the founder of the tribe, fled his native England on charges of murder and came to Modurga. He stumbled upon the Ifeznnar tribe, which was living in isolation and terror due to the masses of bizarre creatures living around them and picking them off. Hulke educated them, not only teaching them intricate building skills and ways to create weapons but also streamlining the class system and creating his own little utopia, and they renamed the tribe after him in his honor.

He also convinced this peaceloving, innocent peoples that eating the flesh of outsiders and rival tribes would give them the strength to defeat the monsters. Over time, this conceit became less and less necessary, as the tribe came to enjoy the taste of their perceived enemies. As such, they're very affable, not aggressive, preferring traps and cunning to brute force.

The Tribegrounds
There's a grand total of twenty-five wooden huts, arranged in an open circle, front doors facing in, most of them furnished, all with at least one hammock. In the center is a giant kitchen of sorts, containing a massive stone oven and multiple other human-size preparation tools. In the center of that is a massive prep table, and beside it is a large gong to be rang when a catch arrives.

Surrounding the tribegrounds, as mentioned, is a whole lot of tropical wilderness, including many massive monsters mostly mysterious to man. There are other tribes about as well, also mostly consisting of cannibals.

Somewhere beyond all that is a coastline and a budding beach resort built by some shady investors as of yet unaware of their hungry neighbors.

Customs
When the catch arrives, it's tied to the table and the gong is rung.

Hulke then takes the catch to his hut for careful "inspection" (a word which many suspects here means fucking.) This will be used to determine how the catch is cooked (if at all, though at the very least they'll be lightly steamed and hacked up.)

The catch is always shared amongst all tribemembers.

Tribesmembers don't eat each other.

Members
Chief Robert Hulke is a bit of an odd dude. He's upbeat, personable, with a wry sense of humor and an insatiable appetite for human flesh. That said, he does legitimately care about keeping his tribesmembers happy and well-fed, though whether this is out of genuine altruism or self-preservation is hard to determine. Although his higher education allows the others to see his leadership as an asset, he could probably be easily overthrown, being as he is both of short stature and lean build. He's one of few members of the tribe with a full (if limited) outfit, decked out in a bucket hat, white button-down T and khaki shorts. (Height: 5'6")

Assistant Chief Cro is young, bubbly and eager-to-please, her head for facts, figures and strategy finally coming in handy in the new order of things. She's in charge of day-to-day operations as well as war planning and rationing.

Warrior Chief Kaj is the man in charge of the assorted hunters, and corralling them into a singular fighting force should wartime come. He's...um...eager, might be too soft a word. The guy's got some serious bloodlust going on. Now that the tribe is cannibalistic he's thrilled to find he can actually drink the stuff, though he's a bit upset he can't get any real mauling in.

The Council of Elders is just as surprised as you are that they still exist, though not a one of them is older than fifty. They're not overly fond of Hulke's way of doing things, but given how violent most regime changes tend to be they're really just thankful that they're alive, being fed, and allowed to resign from field work. Each, conveniently, is an expert in a unique field. Their main jobs these days are consulting and teaching, making sure Hulke knows all he needs to and that there are people who can take over for them if they kick the bucket.
Aab is the oldest at fifty, and has achieved mythic status in the tribe, to the point where his name is the go-to stand-in for Jesus if you want to get some heavy swearing done. (Given his lighthearted yet self-reverential demeanor, he may have started that tradition himself.) He claims to have achieved lots of superhuman feats of daring in his youth, but there aren't many folks around to verify. Seeing as he knows a lot about the local monsters and beasties, he at the very least witnessed the feats he recalls.

Eec is the person to go to if you want, in his opinion, a more informed and important history of Modurga. Aab's got a pretty good head for the monsters, given he supposedly fought most of them, but Eec was an ambassador before his step slowed and it became too dangerous for him, as well as a war historian. As a rule, he tries to attend any meeting between tribes, to keep himself up-to-date on politics. After all, most of his knowledge relies on assuming that the tribes he met with are still around.

Iid is the only member of the tribe to have traveled beyond the shores of Modurga, and is largely still alive by virtue of having stowed away in a white mans' fishing boat as a teenager and sailed back to shore shortly before Hulke showed up. In her years abroad, she hit all six populated continents and knows more languages than she has fingers. In her hunt are stacks upon stacks of history books and once-contemporary news magazines. When outsiders are about, and the solution to the problem is more complicated than "cook the lot of them", she's in charge.
Hunter Iel is a bodybuilder, a consummate hunter with a disconcerting eye for meat, and quite possibly a bit too smug for his own damn good. Given that he was in the upper ranks before Hulke showed up and put more of an emphasis on strategy and survival than battle, he's more than a little disgruntled to be demoted to a just a hunter. (Height: 6'6")

Hunter Nih doesn't care much for flair or style. She's quiet, clean, and gets the job done. And when she confiscated Jasmine_Delve's gun, she was more than happy to hang onto it, having found spears troublesome and bows a pain. She doesn't say much, and unlike most of the tribesfolk she's not much for exposition. Similarly, she doesn't have much patience for her prey's gibbering either, and would vastly prefer killing them early on to dragging them back to camp alive. She doesn't see the merit in it, but Hulke insists it's more nutritional that way and Nih's never been one to question orders.

Hunter Jai is a collector of sorts, curious about the land beyond her shores and the technology it breeds. She wears Oswin_Oswald's tool belt and spends much of her free time puzzling over its contents. Naturally, she prefers setting traps to the old run-and-chase method.

Hunter Des is a hunter, first and foremost, and was before the new order. He keeps himself lean and nimble to easily evade predators and keep his prey on the defensive, and doesn't much care what he's sent after so long as it provides a challenge.

Hunter Zol is muscley enough and fast on his feet, but he's never been the best in combat. Hunting makes him a bit twitchy. He just knows one of these days he's not going to come back alive.

Hunter Rau is insanely by-the-book and a massive suck-up, but only as long as he thinks whoever's in charge is gonna stay that way. His sycophantic tendencies haven't exactly won him favor with the other villagers, but he doesn't seem to notice.

Lead Chef Lyn fancies herself an artiste, having a long and serious fascination with the culinary arts. Though she could, as lead chef, delegate her work, she's far too much of a perfectionist for that. Her mother before her was a cook as well, but back in the old days the tribe'd eat just about anything so Lyn is mostly self-taught. She's also an amateur botanist and zoologist, knowing the flora and fauna of the jungle inside and out and what tastes best with what. Her recent experience eating foreigners has gotten her a bit curious about what her own kind tastes like.

Prep Chef Cal is a lech, often more focused on getting his hands on some naughty bits than actually going a good job. God knows how he got picked for this job. He's not particularly good at it.

Vegetable Chef Ahk is a bit shy, and spends most of his time reading up on the outside world via Iid's collection. He's also a staunch vegetarian, and as such finds himself very uncomfortable with the tribe's shift and often finds himself daydreaming of being elsewhere. Privately, he's working on a boat, and improving his knot-tying skills.

Doctor Wih is slight and short, moreso than Hulke, and desperately undertoned. Originally a catch, she's one of very few to talk her way out of being supper, being as she has medical knowledge of high value and is highly qualified. No one's quite sure where she's from or what her deal is, but her methods work and that's good enough for most. She's quiet yet authoritative, and is more than willing to keep up the pretense that human meat is of high nutritional value lest Hulke slit her throat in the night.

Deceased
Hunter Hin was woefully underdeveloped. She shared Nih's fondness for guns, but was swiftly devoured by Syhdec.
