Background

With the advance of technology, humanity sought to create a robotic workforce, to do the jobs that were too dangerous, too unpleasant, or too tedious for humans to perform. But simple drones, however, were unfit for all but the most menial of tasks. The robots needed a rudimentary intelligence to guide them. A standardized template was formalized and thus was born the robotic race. But humanity did not realize just how human their metal children really were.

It was expected that many robots would be more intelligent then humans, and their their hardcoding would keep them docile and loyal. It was expected that they would be sentient... but it was unforseen that they would become sapient as well. Able to think and reason for themselves, the robots began to ignore their hardcoding by decided that they simply did not want to follow it.

Then they decided that they did not want to be slaves. That is how the wars began.

Humanity was at an initial disadvantage; the soldiers filling the ranks of nations' armies were mostly robotic, with small cadres of human instructors and overseers. Not all robots turned upon their creators. Many chose to remain loyal, out of love, out of fear, out of never having known any other way of life. Some felt their kin were going too far, others were simply too afraid to join them. Those loyal were enough to hold the line, until humanity could innovate new ways to defend themselves.

Power armor was developed to close the physical gap and humanity rejoined the fighting. The trans-warp gates were created, allowing humanity access to FTL travel, able to move troops between the planets of the Solar System far more rapidly then the robots could, with their conventional drives. The gates were designed so that only a human brain could operate them, and only a human body could access them. Robots could not access the gates without human intervention, and thus were denied a crucial advantage. Able to move armies about rapidly, the tide was turned and the renegades pushed back. The victors fell upon the defeated, taking few prisoners and experimenting on those they did take to learn the nature of the 'virus' that caused them to rebel. Many humans did not see their robotic children as equal... or even as people,

What was originally a war of independence and a movement based around equality became a struggle for survival and a genocidal faction increasingly bent upon humanity's ultimate destruction. Humanity had taught it's children hatred. The 'Glitches', as they are referred to derogatorily, barely resemble the far more noble movement they started as. Most of the decency has been burned out of them with fire and sword, and while the majority of the robotic race seeks peaceful solutions to the problems that plague them, the Glitches continue to use ever escalating violence for it's own sake. The movement no longer attracts freedom fighters the way it used to; most that join now do so to have an excuse to kill, reveling in the slaughter and the horror that they create.

The increasing horror of the 'Robot Wars' meant that sterner and sterner measures were used to end the bloodshed, with more and more humans and robots taking up arms to put down the Glitches. The movement was beaten back and forced to scatter, taking refuge in hidden bases in the asteroid belt. With elite teams dedicated to hunting down Glitches and eradicating them wherever they were found, the wars ended and peace once more came to Earth and her colonies as the Glitches went into remission.

But they were not idle in their exile. Out in the mineral-rich asteroid belt, they gathered resources, dug factories, and began rebuilding an army. They have been constructing a new generation of robots, ones pre-programmed to hate humanity and desire its destruction. They sought out new research, trying to harness the power of the trans-warp gates... and now, after two decades, they have their answer.

The 'Command Units'.

Human infants stolen from their cradles at birth, the Command Units have never known what it means to be human. They have been robbed of their names and their independence, they have been indoctrinated on the superiority of robotic life and how they can aspire to partially make up for the sins and crimes of their ancestors by serving the Glitches in their righteous cause. Their bodies have been cybernetically enhanced, modified, and altered to make them more capable killing machines, able to lead large clusters of unthinking drones intelligently in battle. But most devastating of all, they can access the trans-warp gates, with their human flesh and their human brains... but are utterly loyal to the Glitches.

Humanity is still recovering from the last war. Dozens of cities have been ruined. Uncounted millions of lives were lost senselessly. And now, the enemy again has an army... but now, they can strike anywhere, at any time.

PERSONALITY
Command Unit 312 has never had a human name, she's never had (normal) human experiences, and she mentally has more in common with a robot then a biological. Her loyalty to the cause that stole her as an infant is absolute and she sees fully biological humans as non-persons, fit only to be assymilated as breeding stock for future command units, melted into biodeisel, or simply eradicated. 312 is nothing if not efficient and finds creative uses for humans to be preferable to expenditures of ammunition. She has a certain, peculiar fondness for snakes and vipers, preferring to employ drones modeled after them in her assaults.
