Coccoren_Parthenon

The deities of traditional Coccoren myth represented the land and the culture quite well. Higher gods represented abstract ideas, and were generally worshiped when one wished to invoke the characteristic they embodied. Lower tier gods were usually represented as protectors of the land and creators of the world and the various things that populate it.

Coccoren deities did not care about the human race and were primarily concerned with keeping the land in general safe from harm. Despite their divine powers, the higher tiered gods could not interact with many humans directly, and they were believed to guide a chosen hero or champion in their place. Many of the gods did not coordinate this, and there remain legends of champions fighting champions for their respective goddesses.

Myth being myth, it was surely all make-believe, right?

Highest Order

Goddess of Judgement

The highest goddess. She represents the beginning and the end, justice, spontaneity and balance. While the gods aren't believed to take orders from anyone, anything the Goddess of Judgement says would be followed to a 't'. She is depicted as a woman riding a tortoise, holding a crocodile by its tail in one hand and a bird in the other.
Champion: None.

Goddess of Creation

No longer really worshiped, for as time went on legends painted her as a birther of monsters. She represents new beginnings, morality, innocence, birth and choice. She was the first goddess who gave birth to the rest of them that created the world. But when humanity was created, newborn gods sent to walk among them were tagged as monsters, easily corrupted by humans with ill intent. Legend states that she was drowned when the Goddess of Water's heart was pierced, now residing under a local lake.
Champion: None.

Second Highest Order

Goddess of Power

The goddess that represents conflict, courage, dominance, weapon mastery, raw strength, the sun and has the power of reversals. She is one of the three goddesses that control the feelings of men, believed to drive them to seek glory and conflicts. Legend goes that after a nasty war that wiped out most of life on earth the Goddess of Judgement chained her to the highest mountain, but she was freed by the Goddess of Dominion when she was born, forever forced to wear her chains.
Champion: None.

Goddess of Divination

The goddess that represents peace, sight, the flow of time, submissiveness, thought and the moon. She is worshiped by prophesiers and fortune tellers, as it is said that catching a glimpse of whatever is reflected from the mirror on her forehead would give them the gift of seeing the future. She is the polar opposite of the Goddess of Power, as, despite holding a spear in her left hand, she goes for the more civil approach when it comes to solving conflicts. Legend says that she is the owner of the seven rabbits that constructed the moon out of paper.
Champion: None.

Goddess of Dominion

The goddess that represents rationality, strong personal bonds, the stars, industry, joy, royalty and balance, to a much lesser extent. Much like a middle child quells the arguments between the youngest and the eldest, the Goddess of Dominion is the neutral party between the Goddess of Power and the Goddess of Divination. She makes sure that they do not get too powerful, so that the feelings of men do not get too hostile or too submissive. Her image is generally worshiped to give wisdom to leaders.
Champion: None.

Lower Order

Goddess of Wind

She represents nature, relaxation, the clouds, and is primarily worshiped by the elves of the land due to her connection with the earth. It is believed that the clouds were created as she breathed out the smoke from her pipe. Legend continues to say that she was one of the few gods interested in the humans and was reprimanded when it was found out that she created an avatar for herself to walk among people.
Champion: Rinari

Goddess of the Earth

She represents fertility, sturdiness, the land, prosperity, nurture and strictness. Legend says that the world was created when, after an intense quarrel with the Goddess of Wind, she lied on her back, but was too tired to get herself back up, her body becoming the very land underneath their feet. Earthquakes are caused every time she stirs and tries to get back up.
Champion: None.

Goddess of Water

Depicted as a winged humanoid, the Goddess of Water represents refreshment, temperature, mood swings, volatility and life. Legend goes that in a conflict with the Goddess of the Sky, she was pierced through the heart, causing a torrent of her clear blood to rain onto the earth and form bodies of water. With her regenerative powers she didn't die, but she never could remove the blade in her heart, still bleeding to this day.
Champion: None.

Lowest Order

Goddess of the Sky

A gigantic god towering over the land. Half of her face is blue while the other half is black, and she sleeps for eternity with one eye open. Day and night is just her turning back and forth in her sleep. Many legends center around the Goddess of the Sky, one being that when she couldn't sleep the Goddess of Power put a fire in one of her eyes to sooth her while the Goddess of Divination pulled a paper circle over the other to keep her from seeing the true hearts from men as she slumbered. She represents indecision, visibility, the destruction of boundaries, judgement of character and cycles of sleep.
Champion: None.

Goddess of Celebration

The party goddess. She represents felicity, happiness, the arts, pride, medicine and laziness. Perhaps the most outgoing of the goddesses, legend states that people who ingest a certain plant are pulled into her eternal celebration. The plant in question was found to have hallucinogenic properties, but Coccoren myth states that it was in this party that humans were taught music, dance, art and medicine. However, legend warns that those who have been to her party too much slowly lose the will to do much else.
Champion: None.

Goddess of Suffering

A dark goddess that represents depression, industriousness, satisfaction, fear, motivation, trials, poison, and mushrooms. Like the Goddess of Celebration, the Goddess of Suffering can be visited by ingesting a certain kind of mushroom, where she will immediately strike the human with fear and weakness. Should the person be strong enough, though, they will rise back with a stronger lease on life. Going through her trial was a right of passage for boys growing into adults.
Champion: None.
