Years? Decades? It's hard to know how long I'd been trapped inside that rotting building. It's hard to keep track of daylight when you can't feel the warmth of the sun's rays on your skin, and even harder to count the seasons when the air is constantly frigid. My only measure of time was the peeling wallpaper, the piling dust, the decaying furniture.
I'd tried to leave that place, of course. More times than I could count. Just outside the windows, I could see them. Humans. Walking, laughing, rubbing their freedom in my face. Sickening.
