Deora

Deora. Small, soft, sweet Deora. This quiet, gentle girl spends most of her time cooped up in her room, smothered by blankets in front of her computer or wrapped around a book in her pillow nest of a bed. Her heart aches for an adventure, to be something more than what she is but she’s seen enough of the world to know that she’s no hero. What lurks beyond the walls of her home is more than she can take. As a result, her trips to get food resemble a mouse dashing for crumbs. Some days, even the allure of her beloved library is barely enough to draw her out from her room. Who knows what might be lurking between those familiar stacks of books. Of course, the trip has been perfectly safe up to this point. The librarian assures her that the world isn’t nearly as dangerous as she imagines it to be, but Deora isn’t so sure. One day, she knows she’ll be a great scientist, or a leader, or a hero to somebody. Until then, she’ll just keep searching for the courage to try. Maybe she’ll find it in one of her beloved books.

I like the idea of Deora finding herself in fantastical situations by getting sucked into a book she owns or maybe a forbidden tome tucked away in the restricted section of a bookstore, secondhand shop or library.
