Greetings! I decided to make a character of myself, however insane that may be... Sorry for looking as absolutely exhausted as I felt when this picture was taken, it doesn't do my appearance much justice.

Don is a mad scientist and a generally far out person living in an equally far out home he built for himself... An Earthship in Taos, New Mexico! What most don't know about is the underground complex below the home...

Perhaps a few short story or two are in order...

The Bunker

It was cold, dark, and the bitter wind wasn't making it easy, but the metal detector had made it obvious. There was a very large piece of metal below and you were too curious to let it go, even to rest long enough to use tomorrow's daylight... Not that there was anywhere you could rest... You had your flashlight, macgyver'd together metal detector, shovel and pick. Your slightly tattered clothes were good enough for the task at hand, and working was also helping to keep you warm! Digging around the object had revealed a large disc shape with a protrusion on one side. So that's where you dug, and dug, and dug more. Hours passed. With the first ray of sunlight hitting your face, you heard the distinct clang of metal hitting metal. Quickly uncovering the surface of that you hit revealed a hinged metal door connecting to the rest of the circular structure... But the lack of rust bothered you, as did the tremendous array of colors! Deep greens, blues purples and yellows glinted in the sunlight as the door folded back! Now all you saw before you was a rather plain looking old computer terminal... This didn't look alien at all! But did it work? You pushed the only button you saw, hoping it would bring life back to the machine. Seconds ticked by, half a minute, a minute... You gave up, it was hopele- "beep"... It had sprung to life! Or, at least it was illuminated. "Please state your identity" it requested in a rather genderless computerized voice. "W-What?" you said, somewhat taken aback at the moment. "No paramilitary prefix detected," the screen quickly displayed a picture of your shocked face taken by a small camera next to the screen. "No paramilitary outfit detected. Assume non-hostile. State current year." it now requested of you.
"Twenty-seventy-two..."
"Confirming... Confirming... Unable to confirm. No satellite response. No radio clock signals. Diagnosing internal short wave receiver. Diagnosis complete: unit functioning properly. Assume true. Last physical contact: year twenty-thirty-six. Assume apocalyptic worst case scenario."
It was true, the world had gone to hell twenty years ago and things hadn't gotten much better...
"Opening bunker number fifteen. A representative will be with you shortly."
A representative? What did this computer mean by that? A person? No, no person could survive thirty, thirty-six years, in a sealed coffin like this! Nevertheless, as you watched the center section lift up in the middle and split the grass and dirt down the middle, you were concerned about what you would soon see. The humming and thrumming of an elevator grew closer... And closer... Until finally a head, a body, a man appeared before you as the elevator came to rest. "So, what've I missed in the last third of a century?" I asked you.

(Yes, he's built numerous 'respawn' bunkers throughout the world. As a mad scientist, one of his most passionate projects making himself effectively immortal! And that's what this story is an illustration of.)
