Doppelganger_Mayah

This world is one where you are one of 3 things, each with varying sub-categories that further define what you are. You can either be a Monster, a Monster Hunter or a Civilian. Civilians have the most sub-categories, each individual job or way of life is one such sub-category. Monster Hunters have their various classes, along with those that support them in the field as their sub-categories, while Monsters have but 2, each with the same 4 under them. When it comes to Monsters, you're either a standard beast or a magical beast, followed by either being a Peaceful, Domesticated, Aggressive or a Companion Monster. Dogs and other such pets would counts as both Domesticated and Companion Monsters by this categorization system. Mayah is a Doppelganger, a type of Mimic that first ensnares and then consumes a victim, before taking on their appearance, personality and abilities. Everything, right down to the memories, is copied by the Doppelganger. However this is not the end of the victim in most cases, as the Doppelganger requires easy access to them in order to reapply it's disguise and keep up the act every once in a while, by consuming the victim again and again. They usually inhabit dungeons or ruins, places they can easily hide in and simply ambush their prey, before deciding how to proceed. Take their place in society or on whatever team was investigating the area or continue to live as a Monster in the location they are in. In either case, the victim will not be seen again unless you can get the Doppelganger to lead you to them. Doppelgangers are classified as dangerous Aggressive Monsters that should exterminated on sight. The thing is, figuring out that you're looking at one is fairly difficult, as they replicate their victims so perfectly you would likely never find out without picking up on the slight irregularity they create in their victim's life. Yes, the only way to tell you're looking at one, is to wait for them to need to feed on their victim once again. So what do they look like when they don't have a victim at the time? Usually, amorphous dark blue blobs similar in appearance to a slime, only far more solid than liquid. So, you might be wondering what's so special about Mayah, right? Well, truth be told, no one knows how it happened, but she took on her current form without first getting a victim to impersonate. Yes, Mayah is completely innocent in that area. She's never hurt anyone without good reason. (Though what she considers good reason is up for questioning...) The truth of the matter is her parents weren't both Doppelgangers, only the "father" was. Thus Mayah was born from the deception and her abilities altered slightly as a result. Most would have killed both father and offspring upon finding out the truth, this is a second way to learn the truth of the impersonation one might say. However, Mayah's mother kept her secret until she was intelligent enough to form herself into a disguised form. Unfortunately, this disguise isn't perfect, having nothing to base it off Mayah could only take external features into account when designing it. As a result of this, Mayah's internal structure, while it does still mimic that of a Human, or in her case, a Half-Elf, it's colouration and capabilities are all wrong. Instead of the pinkish-red, her internal body is the same colour as her eyes, a striking blue, while everything from her tongue all the way through has small yet strong spikes sprouting from the "fleshy" walls. While not very numerous or sharp, these spikes are there simply for the purpose of helping her process her food. Every part of her body can "chew" things inside her, which would make an intimate encounter rather... uncomfortable, to say the least. Mayah is known for what she is and is as such classified as a Companion Monster both due to her lack of aggression and the fact she's taken on the role in a Monster Hunting party that didn't currently have one. Companion Monsters can be any type of Monster, Mayah is no exception, so long as they can be both non-hostile and controllable. Why she took the role is also rather simple. Being a Monster type that is usually seen as dangerous, without a caretaker after her mother's sad passing she would have been slaughtered if not taken in by another. It just so happens that she is exceptionally well suited to being a Monster Hunter's pet. As for why I refer to Mayah as a "She" when Doppelgangers have no gender, merely a mimiced biology and physiology, is because that is how she sees herself after how she was raised and the form she chose to live in. A fact that not all respect, but enough have no issue with that Mayah can get by without correcting people. She doesn't mind being called "It" or "Monster" or some other such method of addressing her or what she is, but prefers it when people respect that she is Mayah, Companion Monster and mostly friendly Doppelganger. Mayah's appearance, outwardly anyway, is that of a young looking 17-20 year old female Half-Elf, her form not "elegant" to make her look like and Elf outright, though her true age is 28. Doppelganger's can live for as long as they have an appropriate food source, usually the memories of their victims or in Mayah's case, the emotions of those that trust her. They also need meat but far less so. Despite this, Mayah hasn't eaten (many) people yet. At least, none that weren't either criminals or willing. Which for the most part, hasn't been any anyone knows of. Legally she is allowed to execute those that deserve it now she's part of a Monster Hunting party, though only with her owner's permission. Illegally, she'll do as she pleases. Continuing her appearance, Mayah's hair is a much darker shade of blue than her internal structure and eyes, this being closer to the usual colour of an un-transformed Doppelganger, while she has pointed Elven ears and pale skin. She isn't the tallest, only standing at 5'4", though if she felt like it could change that, along with all her other features too. She doesn't wish to change her shape though. Her facial features are fairly soft and rounded while her "skin" is soft and smooth to the touch. She has a feminine body complete with all you would expect that to come with. Mayah dresses in a varying array of clothing, though latetly has taken to wearing the garments her owner decides she should have on. Usually, this entails a corset style blouse with a high collar and open shoulders, the design including a small cape that runs down her upper back. Her lower body is generally covered by a pair of loose fitting trousers and heavy looking, though actually rather light, leather boots. All she wears comes in varying shades of dark blue or brown and, given she is far stronger than most people, Mayah can usually be seen toting her group's equipment and bags around too, the burden barely affecting her. She is even able to conceal items within herself, given her nature as a mostly solid, partially liquid being. The last item of clothing Mayah wears is a tightly fit black choker magically sealed to her neck for the purpose of preventing her from eating people, her mother wanting Mayah to live as peacefully and happily as possible.
