Emmy DeWine is 18 years old and just wants to live her life without drawing any more attention than she has to. Well, that's probably not a realistic goal, considering her physical attributes. What she really hopes for is to get away from her dark past. So she has changed her name and moved from one home to another several times.

What is she running from, you ask? Her parents, of course. Her parents were wicked, horrible people. They were thieves, kidnappers...and murderers. They were sadistic predators that would kidnap people, ransom them for a fortune, and then eat them anyway even if they got the ransom money. Emmy was born into this life of crime and initially was being raised to become a part of their operations. But Emmy developed a conscience, which drew her parents' ire. They tried to force her to start thinking and acting like them. They recognized that she had tremendous potential and could be an even more gluttonous predator than either of them were. Time after time again they tried to make her join in on their crimes, but she always refused. Things finally came to a head one night when they forced her under the threat of death to eat her best friend. Against her will she did it, and she has never stopped hating herself for it. She ran away from home the next day and never stopped running.

Emmy was in and out of foster homes for a while, always looking over her shoulder, afraid that her parents or one of their associates would find her and try to bring her back into the fold. Every time that she got paranoid and thought that they were about to find her, she took off again.

So she grew up largely independant, and is very capable of taking care of herself. She works in an ice cream parlor, and despite her youth, is expected to be promoted to manager soon. She lives alone, which she has convinced herself is for the best, even though she longs very much to have friends, and of course, lovers. But she has guarded herself against making close friends. She still is plagued by nightmares of what she was forced to do to her best friend all those years ago, waking up screaming in the middle of the night.

How long can she keep running from her past? Is it her destiny to become an alpha predator, or can she find the quiet, "normal" life that she longs for? Will she forever be alone?
