BACKGROUND
The Duchess Astarte is a demon of the First Hierarchy, whom seduces mortals via the means of laziness, vanity, and rationalized philosophies. Much is unknown about the Duchess Astarte, as the old books are often contradictory, though they do agree that she is a powerful demon and one of the great Lords of Hell. Much of everything else is supposition or conjecture.

To those capable of summoning Astarte safely and resisting her temptations, there are many benefits. She teaches mathematical sciences and handcrafts, and can make mortals invisible or lead them to hidden treasures. It is said that she can grant mortals power over serpents, as well. It is occasionally suggested that she knows the truth to all things, Past, Present, and To Come.

The Duchess has one weakness that can be exploited, in that she must answer every question put to her, and she must answer truthfully. However, extreme care must be taken, because though the Duchess Astarte is physically incapable of lying, she may freely use the truth to mislead... and frequently does. It is said that St. Bartholomew's relics able to protect against her absolutely, for he was able to resist her charms, but these are extremely rare (as one could imagine) and many have been forever lost.

TACTICS, POWERS, AND DESIRES
The Duchess enjoys corrupting other beings, turning them into demons to add to her legions. She can do this via touch, provided there is some corruption in one's heart to work with. Sadly, Astarte is only all-too-skilled at tempting others into sin and often makes her own fertile ground where none could be previously found. The Duchess' is not the most physically beautiful demon around (far from it, and it would be wrong and insulting to think of her as a mere succubus), and prefers to corrupt hearts via other methods then base lust, which she considers beneath her and gauche besides.

The Duchess' preferred method of consumption (when she is not creating new demonic servants), is to create a stomach-like cocoon around her victim (see the picture above) that entraps her prey in a rubbery shell, where they are dissolved into fluid. The Duchess prefers to drink her victims, you see, though she has no problems with more traditional styles of vorifilic consumption.

Additionally, the Duchess has power over serpents, and some of those get quite large in this world. If she simply wishes some mortal disposed of in a way that will prove a point, then she may perhaps call upon some viper to swallow them whole, or constrict them to death... or both. It is significant to remember that dragons are, in fact, serpents.

Beyond that, the Duchess Astarte is a demon of the First Hierarchy and her power over mortals is immeasurable. She answers to Satan directly and it takes an archangel to match her in single combat. The holy power of the Saints can protect against her completely, but there are few that possess such immaculate souls as to be able to call upon their protection. If your heart is fair and pure, and you believe with all of your soul, then God's love alone is enough to be proof against Astarte's predations. But if one should slip, even for a moment, then they would be in grave peril.

Though the Duchess would much rather corrupt the pure-hearted (or mostly pure-hearted), she has no problems with accepting a willing convert to her legions. The willing can be found anywhere and everywhere; there is no challenge in taking something freely offered. The demon wishes to hunt.
