((Character of
Harley_Chase))
((WIP, especially nailing down the personalities of the two. It'll evolve a bit as I play them!))
((Picture not mine: It helped inspire the character, and is so provided for the time being.))
"What? No, I didn't grow--I think you're looking for Aaron, not me."
Born at the edge of a fey-touched wood, Erin and her brother,
Aaron_Oakshade (Why, yes, their parents
did think that'd be cute) are.. odd. Never seen together, nearly identical, one or the other missing for long stretches of time, one might think it's just one person choosing to live a double life.
The truth is more complicated than that. Erin and Aaron
are twins, and always have been. But when they were born, they were born at the same time.
The
exact same time.
Unlike most siblings, they don't just share toys and chores.Aaron and Erin share an
existence. This is not to say they are two people in one body, simply shifting back and forth--they have seperate (if simillar) bodies. But as far as
existence is concerned, there's only one of them, can
be only one of them, at any given time. When one's wandering about the other is.. somewhere. Nowhere.
They're still, frankly, not quite sure how it works, though they've also managed to at least partially furnish their 'nowhere', a desk (or, rather, the *idea* of a desk), a chair, a study--but it's all nebulous, and difficult to describe (or even really think about) when they're 'embodied', as if they're using platonic ideals as furniture. They can't actually bring anything from reality
to their nowhere, so there's no books except ones they've written or copied from memories. Similarly, things they create in the Nowhere can't
leave it, but they do 'stay' there.
Not that they need to create anything at all--time flows variably (and, to an extent, controllably) for the sibling that isn't 'present' in the world, depending on how they're feeling. To Aaron (or Erin), they could choose to spend days in the nothing for what was, to an outside observer, a 3-hour time away, or they could feel only seconds pass between their turns in reality when over a week had gone by outside.
Both are quite friendly, though Erin is a bit more stubborn than Aaron is, sometimes not knowing when to quit.
Perhaps as a consequence of their odd existence, both Oakshades have a keen interest in the unknown, especially in relation to the magical. They're not in any attempt to cure (or even understand!) their condition, they're just curious. So they agreed with each other to live as field researchers and explorers, working in tandem to push the boundaries of knowledge, to poke at the nooks and crannys of the world. They have some magical talent, but it's almost all focused on utility spells: creating light, preserving parchment, copying books, conjuring ink, lighting a fire. Combat powerhouses, they are not, but they're pretty resourceful.
Generally, they don't tend to explain this odd existence to everyone they meet, even when it results in rumors of someone leading a double life. Why? A variety of reasons. For one, it's tricky to explain. For two, they sometimes get tired of answering the dozens of questions they get when they *do* reveal the truth ("How do you communicate?" (Originally? Notes. Now? It's like self-talking, but it can be more complicated). "Can you read each other's thoughts?" (Not without using magic, which is kind of rude.) "Do you have to poop in the nowhere?" (I'm.. not answering that.)" For three? There's been at least two attempts by people to 'study' them against their will, and they'd rather that stop, thanks.
