Estella was always a rather average girl. She never excelled at school, never failed at it. Never won a game in sports, never lost one either. She was the very definition of average. The only thing that really separated her from the crowd was her love for the sea. For her entire childhood she lived by the sea, the Great Barrier Reef, to be exact, with all of it's various vibrant corals and fish. Much of her free time was either spent down by the beach with her friends, or out amongst the waves, scouring the sea floor for new animals. Though in the end it was this love that'd ultimately be her end.

It was a few days prior to her eighteenth birthday, and the height of summer, and as such her parents offered something special; a few days voyage out on the reef with her friends. Estella couldn't say no! The first few days out at sea were wondorous. Her parents had rented a huge yacht and a fair number of her friends had decided to come with. It was like a dream come true for the girl... Up until that one night. Everything had been fine, food was great, everyone was tired out from a day of swimming, tanning, and diving. By twelve everyone was fast asleep, which meant that no one could feel the growing swells, or the rolling crackle of thunder off in the distance. Estella was awoken by the sounds of panicked shouts and yells, and the feeling of water rushing in from down the stairs. The boat was taking on water, fast, someone had already been swept overboard and another had hit their head in the dark. Everything was in utter chaos, and in the pitch black night with nothing surrounding them but miles of sea water, there wasn't any help coming any time soon. Estella tried despirately to help her friends, her family, anyone and everyone she could, but one by one, the voices quieted as the yacht sank down below the waves. By the time she was off the boat, there was no one else... Just the eerie silence of nothingess. She cried out, begging for a reply from someone else but there was none. The sea had claimed their voices, and it wanted hers as well. The only thing she could do was scream as a rope found its way around her ankle, and yanked her below the waves. She struggled, she fought, but in her already fatigued state, it wasn't much of a fair fight. Estella took one last look at her surroundings, the beautiful reef that'd been her love and her life, and now it was to be her grave. Funny really, how the place she loved with all her heart couldn't care less for her. She didn't hate it though, who could? It was the way of nature. The way of life. Hers would darken, disappear from existence, and another would appear, shining twice as bright. But it seems that the reef had other plans for her instead. For what felt like an eternity she laid there, the soft silt of the ocean floor being the bed on which she slept, only to find that... She wasn't dead.

Her eyes opened and she looked about, seeing the scattered remains of ship parts lodged deep in the silt and sand, bright beams of light trickling down from the surface and onto the surroundings around her. It took her a moment to realize she wasn't breathing, and it caused her to freeze up, hands grasping at her neck and water sputtering out of her mouth for a moment before she realized something odd. She wasn't choking, she wasn't drowning, she didn't even feel like she was holding her breath! When she looked down at her hands she was met with a little surprise. Skin and bone were gone, replaced instead with translucent flesh speckled with iridescent blue. She examined the rest of herself now and found much the same, instead of toned, solid muscle that she'd gained from swimming and living a generally active lifestyle she felt the same soft, squishy flesh. It freaked her out a little, to say the least. Pushing the strangeness of her body out of her mind for the moment, Estella wandered along back towards home, back towards land. When she arrived at that familiar beach, she felt the reality of the situation. They'd all been missing for a few weeks now, and by the time her head rose up above the water, the house was surrounded by police cars and the coast guard was already searching for them. But they were never found, only Estella knows what happened.

Frightened to think of what would happen if they saw her, she sank back into the ocean, sliding under the water and disappearing from the rest of the world. Over time, she figured out why she was the way she was, and what it meant for her future. She was chosen for her love, for her passion, for her sacrifice, to the sea. Some higher power took pity on her fate and set her life in a new direction, leading her onto a path of uncertainty and oddities that'd she'd never really get used to. Now she wanders, hoping to one day come across more like her or at the very least those who would accept her, and with how strange the people around her have been getting, it seems that she won't have to look to hard.
