Flesh and bone: The gryphon traditionally known as a cross between a lion and an eagle. But in the case of Fire Gryphon, the cross is between a phoenix and cheetah. This odd hybrid combination represents itself as a black furred, black-feathered quadruped, standing about the size of a large dog. His wingspan is approximately 9 feet from tip to tip, while his total length from tip of beak to tip of tail is 8 feet. From ground to shoulder, his height is 3.5 feet. These are all approximate numbers. Concerning colouration, the basics have already been stated. But closer inspection reveals a very faint reddish pattern in his feathers. There are no patterns in his fur, it is pitch black. Being half cheetah and half phoenix gives him a lighter, smaller than average body, but it is incredibly quick and agile. His talons are a little on the stubby side; while dangerous, they are also capable of manipulating various objects. His eyes are a reddish-gold that appears to illuminate itself, but sheds no actual light: in the darkness, his eyes are as any other part. But, his eyes are a give-away for his life-force, showing just how much endurance and energy he has left. The dimmer they eye, the weaker his abilities are. If his eye were to ever go fully black, well, no-one knows for sure...

Plushy: Fire has a rather unique form, as well. Activated by the necklace which he has around his neck at pretty much all times, the black gryphon can switch into a plushy form at any time. A quick turn of the dial on the jewelry, from the black half to the white, and standing at the same size will be a pure white plushy gryphon! With white fabric (thanks to a run through washing machine with bleach), gray fore-legs, and black leather beak and claws, this fellow is really and truly harmless! As said, his size is still the same, the full four-foot height and length not changing. However, since as a toy his wings are useless, they are much stubbier, less elegant than his normal form. And the plush IS fully anatomically correct... He has a gullet, silky smooth, a pouch within acting as a harmless crop, and a larger one for his stomach. Another silky, tight tunnel leads out the back, with a ring of elastic keeping the tail-hole closed. Between the white hind-legs are his bits, soft and full, a black rubbery shaft hidden inside a sheath there.
Abilities/Powers
Flesh and bone: Powers in this gryphon are limited. Due to his phoenix blood, he can reform (More info on reformation below.) Another power is granted by the phoenix blood, and that is the ability to generate heat with his feathers, talons, beak and the blood itself. This grants him a great amount of lift when used, among whatever other uses he can find for the extra heat. Granted by the phoenix as well is his regenerative power. The phoenix trait runs down to his very cells, so that even on a cellular level his body reforms quickly. But the power does not work to repair broken feathers and cut fur, only wounds and injuries that would be enough to create serious problems if left unchecked. Thanks to Fluffy and Fire's rebirth as the large gryphon's son, Fire has gained the power to return to the Realm of Floof. The last power is that of all gryphons, mindspeech. While he can pick up on other’s telepathy, his own ‘voice’ is rather weak, requiring him to be within touching distance in order to make himself heard.
Plushy: The plushy gryph has some of the innate abilities of his more fleshy counterpart, but they differ in a few ways. The fire resistance is still there, acting to protect the stuffed toy from all forms of flame. He cannot be burned, although he can be lit on fire. Reforming is not possible, since he can't die! If the fabric is torn, it will mend automatically quite quickly. He can't digest organics or flesh, but other cloth can be absorbed and used by him for 'food.' If the clothes are requested back, he can recreate them perfectly, and clean to boot! The plushy loves to be cuddled and scrunched and hugged and compressed, and an automatic reaction to it was to heat up. Not enough to be uncomfortable to the hugger, but just enough to create a soothing warmth from within the toy. And his powers for healings are still intact, as are his mindspeech.
Reformation
Reforming himself as was requires a lot of energy. Even more energy is required to reform in better condition than before. Normal, simple phoenix re-birth is the most efficient, energy-wise, reformation. All it requires is time. With his remains in one place, the body will burn into ash, and from the ash a small gryphlet is reborn: Fire Gryphon. Diminutive in size (about the size of a housecat), he makes up for it with near endless energy and appetite. All the energy in his full size body trapped in the little one makes for a VERY hyper gryphlet. But, it does not last forever. Until he regains his former size, about 85% of his meals are actually used to add to his mass, meaning after everymeal he grows considerably. And an intense desire to eat occupies a large part of his mind; being so small is not safe. That is just the most efficient way of reforming, however. With more energy spent, he can reform fully intact as he was before death, ful sized and all. But it is a drain on him. Also, thanks to Fluffy again, Fire sports a beautiful tail-ring, which serves as a focal point for the Realm's energy. WIth a rub from Fluffy or himself, this energy is unleashed and causes the tiny gryph to grow up in a matter of seconds.
Gryphonny goodness
What does it take to make a gryphon happy and relaxed? I will impart this knowledge for the benefit of all who deal with gryphons.
- 1. A full stomach. food is a good way to start any visit with a gryphon. Although it may seem odd, nearly cannibalistic, chicken is usually a safe bet, but steak is sure fire!
- 2. Alcohol. Not too much, just some to make said gryphon get a 'buzz' and relax a bit.
- 3. Sufficiently warm. Most often done using blankets. Gryphons especially enjoy being able to strecth out to any postion they feel like, cushions and pillows are great for this.
- 4. Music. Background music is a very nice touch that most, if not all, gryphons enjoy. Silence can be unnerving to most gryphons.
- 5. Do not ignore the gryphon, but do not give it too much attention. Gryphons require attention, but too much attention irritates them, especially if they are doing something else.
- 6. Compliment your gryphon. Gryphons enjoy compliments almost as much as knowing they can do whatever they want. The quickest way to a gryphons heart is via compliments.
- 7. Show you do not mind talking about anything. Gryphons can be blunt and vulgar, but do not want to make anyone uncomfortable. By showing opennes about any topic you make the gryphon comfortable.
- 8. Gryphons often say very stupid things. Ignoring these things is usually best for the gryphon's comfort, but pointing them out now and again teaches the gryphon valuable lessons.
- 9. Do not brag. Bragging quickly turns a gryphon against you, as it usually believes the old saying: "Anything you can do I can do better" and gryphons are never wrong, according to themselves.
- 10. A well rested gryphon is a content gryphon. You can tell a gryphon has not had enough sleep if it is cranky. Also, the weather the gryphon wakes up to makes a large difference to its demeanor for the day. Waking up to bright sunshine is best for a gryphons attitude throughout the day.
((OOC notes: Fire may not act as though he enjoys everything, but his player does. Rape, bondage, mummification, scat, watersports, dismemberment, force-feeding, etc, etc... Above all else, he likes being forced into situations, against his will or not. But he does love to be served in a meal. Mix him up in dough, spit him and roast him, add him to a sandwich or simply shrink him and eat him in a bowl of chips with dip! Just don't change his form drastically. Size, age, colour and such are fine, but he will always be a gryphon.))
