The Mage Wars are long behind the world... a horrific memory whose scars still mark the world in many places. When wizards go to war, it is reality itself that suffers for it. It will be generations before the world is able to forget the physical scars, even though most of the cultural scars have long since faded. There were many things created during the Wars, both great and fell. Many survive to this day. The creature known as the Flesh Golem is one such scar that refuses to heal.

The creature was stitched together from necrotic flesh and given unnatural life via magical means. It was intended to be a semi-autonomous servant, a powerful warrior capable of hunting down and exterminating enemy spellcasters. It is unknown who created the Flesh Golem as many records were simply lost in the destruction caused by the Wars, but the creature still survives today.

The golem stands shoulder to shoulder with a giant, towering over even ogres and trolls. It has arms like tree-trunks, capable of battered even stone walls into rubble, and it does not require sleep or rest. It lacks most of the internal anatomy that a normal biological creature possesses, instead having only a tendril-filled stomach connected directly to the massive mouth in it's chest. It's unnatural flesh has been carved with runes of protection, making it exceptionally magically resistant. Physically powerful and practically immune to magic, it really is as close to the perfect hunter of wizards as one can get. It's chief downside, however, is it's very low intelligence.

The Golem can not be said to be self aware or even sapient. It does not think, not as such, but has a very long and highly complicated set of 'instructions' that it's creator gave it almost a hundred years ago that it's still following blindly. The idea was to create a semi-autonomous construct that could operate and behave independently of personal instruction for long periods of time. In that, the Flesh Golem's construction was successful. Too successful, even, in that it left to carry out it's orders, never came back, and is still operating under those same orders long after the wars have ended.

The Golem's modus operandi is simple. Seek out magical beings or those capable of wielding magic, relieve them of their magical equipment, then swallow it's target whole to digest them, both taking them out and fueling the Golem's continued existence at the same time. Only, the days of the great wizards is long over and the like of the archmages has not been seen since they all wiped each other out during the Wars. But still, the Golem continues to hunt, mindlessly obeying it's directives. The mages of today are at extreme peril should they catch the Golem's attention, for there are very, very few of them magically strong enough to overcome the creature's anti-magic wards, and few are the fighters that can match it's raw, overbearing strength.

The Golem targets wizards, naturally, but it also targets those that protect them. It also gives special consideration to those with magical objects of great power, or those simply possessing a large number of lesser items. It is unknown what the creature does with the artifacts that it collects; there are rumors that it takes them back to a treasure trove somewhere, and that if someone could get their hands upon it's repository, then they would be in a position to become the most powerful person on the planet.

To date, no one has survived the Flesh Golem to claim the prize.
