Some major questions, to begin... (The following is mostly a primer on Digimon stuff, so if you know all this already, skip ahead by searching for the word "Gavin".)

What's a Digimon, anyway?
Parallel to our own world exists the Digital World, a world composed entirely of computer data and overseen by the AI program known as Yggdrasil. Within this world are living beings composed entirely of data, capable of growing, evolving, and rebirth through "death" and recomposition as a "digitama" or digital egg. These beings come in numerous species, and are collectively known as Digimon.

What is DATS?
The Digital Accident Tactics Squad, or DATS for short, is an organization devoted to preventing unnecessary clashes and potential bloodshed between the two worlds. To this end, information about Digimon is suppressed for anyone not an agent or staff member of DATS, with rare and notable exceptions for those who can be trusted.
DATS agents also engage in combat with Digimon who have broken through into the real world with the help of Partner Digimon. These special Digimon have formed a friendship and resonance with their agent, known as their Tamer, and through this bond the Tamer can utilize Digimon Natural Ability (DNA) to help them to Digivolve.
Rogue Digimon who have entered the real world and been confronted by DATS agents will regress to their digitama state upon defeat, upon which they are returned to the Digital World where they belong and allowed to be reborn.

Digimon Natural Ability?
A form of human emotion actualized as an energy field, the DNA charge is usable by certain talented humans. When utilized in conjunction with the Digivice and a properly resonant Partner Digimon, a human can use this energy to advance their partner's power through Digivolution.
In certain rare cases, humans have been known to use DNA to enhance their own physical combat abilities as well. Explorer and DATS Japan member Spencer Damon was said to be able to defeat even Mega-level Digimon with his DNA even without the help of a partner.

What is Digivolution?
All Digimon advance to new forms as they grow and mature. The longer a Digimon has lived, the stronger they become. When a Digimon passes over a certain threshold, their entire physical appearance alters and becomes a new species entirely. This process is known as Digivolution.
A Digimon who works with a Tamer can undergo a temporary forced evolution through the action of the Digivice. This can sometimes advance them several stages in the space of a few seconds. Induced evolution is always temporary, and such a Digimon will revert to its prior form upon running out of energy or sustaining severe damage.

What are the stages of a Digimon's evolution?
Digivolution proceeds in several distinct stages. Upon hatching from a digitama, Digimon are in a Baby stage. This stage lasts for hours to a few days before naturally growing to the In-Training stage. Some stay in this state for a long time; others will quickly grow out of it. Digimon who have undergone strenuous induced evolution may also temporarily regress to this state.

The third stage is Rookie. The large majority of Digimon are in this state, as are nearly all Partner Digimon when not under the effects of a Digivice. Digimon in this stage are often childish, but old enough to fend for themselves easily. They are also easily powerful enough to cause harm to humans and property, possessing even at this young stage many powers.

Following Rookie is the Champion stage. Champions are highly powerful Digimon that can be thought of as the adult stage of a Digimon's life. Most if not all Digimon will reach Champion state at some point in their life cycle before reverting to digitama. This is also the first stage of induced evolution; any Tamer with the ability to empower their Digivice can force their partner to temporarily take on this form. Natural Digimon will generally take months or possibly years to attain Champion level.

Above these is the Ultimate stage (known as Perfect form in Japanese). This state takes many years to attain, and some Digimon never will reach it. Ultimates hold incredible power, and it is only with difficulty that a Tamer can attain the "full charge" necessary to evolve their Partner to this stage.

Last of all is the Mega form (referred to by Japanese tamers and fans as Ultimate). This is an extremely rare form that few Digimon will ever achieve. Those that do have invariably lived for decades or even centuries before attaining this transcendent form, and generally are among the ruling elite of the Digital World. Prime examples of this are the ferocious SaberLeomon and wise Merukimon, both of whom rule over a large portion of their home areas. Evolution of a partner to the Mega level requires incredible skill with the DNA charge, as well as a special upgraded Digivice not issued to DATS agents.

There are also rumors of Digimon that surpass even the Mega level, generally regarded to be enhanced forms such as the "Burst Mode", but little to no data exists on these peerless forms.

... So who is Gavin, and where does he fit into all this?

Gavin Chase... a talented young mind, and a calm, careful diplomat. Unaware of the Digital World's existence for most of his life thanks to DATS America's tireless efforts, it was accordingly quite a shock when a talking bear-like creature wearing a fur coat (wearing as in a garment, not actually growing like regular fur) suddenly appeared in his apartment one day. The creature, who referred to himself as "Gabumon", wrecked quite a bit of the room in his confused state before Gavin was able to calm him.

It was about thirty seconds later that a DATS agent forced entry through the balcony door and was met with a rather annoyed-looking Gavin calmly demanding to know why the man felt such a violent tactic was necessary against a docile target. The agent quickly found himself explaining everything to Gavin... soon culminating in Gavin and the agent returning to headquarters with Gabumon held tightly in Gavin's arms, the young Digimon pledging to act on DATS' behalf.

After that demonstration, Gavin becoming an agent was a question of when, not if. However, there was a problem... although sent out with a number of DATS America's "tame" Digimon, none of them were able to resonate properly with Gavin; though he showed several times he was capable of calling on the DNA charge, attempts to use it to help his current partner Digivolve fizzled. For months, Gavin moved from teammate to teammate without any luck.

Eventually, a rather troublesome situation arose. One of the agents, a bit of a hot-head, chased the Digimon he was assigned to capture through a newly-opened Gate and into the Digital World. Two agents were assigned to perform a "Digital Dive", to enter the Digital World themselves and retrieve him. One of the two assigned was Gavin and his current partner Elecmon; despite their behavior not yet being in sync, it was hoped that they would be able to come closer to one another in Elecmon's natural habitat, or else that Gavin would be able to find his partner among the residents of the Digital World. In any case, Gavin's diplomacy skills would be invaluable to settling the tension at seeing humans, as well as gathering information on the missing Tamer.

At one point during the Dive, Gavin's teammate ran off in search of a lead that the missing Tamer was nearby. Left to his own devices, Gavin soon encountered a pair of Tsukaimon, virus-types with a penchant for hurling insightful insults and hurting everyone's feelings. These two seemed to be exercising their talents on a Tokomon, newly created (or at least without memories from before) and afraid to evolve to his Rookie state. One of the Tsukaimon explained it to Gavin this way:

"See, when a Digimon evolves to any given level for the first time, they're set in that level. Tokomon like this bozo pretty much always become a Patamon, or one of us. But see, we don't like Patamon too much. So if he turns into one, we're probably gonna stop bein' his friends. But if he turns into a Tsukaimon like us, well, then we're virus types. Evil Digimon. And he keeps saying how he doesn't wanna be evil and stuff. So the coward can't make up his mind, so he's too scared to do either! Heh heh!"

Gavin's response was simply to shoo the two Tsukaimon away, and calmly hold the little Tokomon. The two spent nearly half an hour talking about the little one's fears... Gavin's words careful and calm as always.

"Listen, Tokomon. What you're so worried about... just because someone's a virus-type doesn't mean they're forced to be evil. So what if neither of us know of one who wasn't? That just means you'll be the very first one. Right?"

It was about this point that the Kuwagamon decided to attack.

Faced with the terrifying insect-like Digimon, Elecmon charged in but was able to have little effect against the powerful Champion Virus-type. Forced at last to choose, Tokomon took strength from Gavin's words and became a Tsukaimon. Even with a virus-type's help, though, two Rookies against a Champion is rarely an even fight. Gavin's worry took form, and the DNA charge formed around his hand... but to Elecmon's surprise, the light that shone out from Gavin's Digivice didn't affect him at all... but Tsukaimon glowed suddenly white and grew...

"Tsukaimon, digivolve to... Devimon!"

With the Champion Digimon on their side, and Gavin finally with a partner, the enemy was fairly quickly dealt with... needless to say, when the other Tamer returned with their lost comrade and opened the gate back, Gavin stepped through back into the Real World with Tsukaimon perched comfortably atop his head.

Things proceeded comfortably for quite a few months, Gavin and his new partner racing eagerly into battle. Until the day that they encountered a completely unknown Digimon. There were no signs of a Digital Gate opening, nor any data about the creature... yet there it was, floating quietly in the very center of town. Whatever it was, it was a horrible fight. Before it was forced to retreat, Tsukaimon suffered painful injuries, even with Gavin unlocking the Full Charge in the middle of the battle... and his teammate's beloved Patamon was injured so badly as to fall back to becoming a digitama... only to shatter the moment it formed.

That battle convinced Gavin. It wasn't enough just to support his partner with the DNA Charge. If he couldn't fight alongside his partner, he wouldn't fight at all.

That was when Tsukaimon, knowing just what her Tamer was thinking, told Gavin about one of the Digital World's oldest legends... the twelve warrior spirits... Though they were spirits destined to bond with humans in place of their partners, it was known that there were other spirits besides the destined twelve who may be willing to help Gavin... a chance to fight alongside Tsukaimon in battle...

It wasn't even a day before Gavin had packed weeks' worth of supplies and slipped past the DATS security protocols, calmly locking his commander out of the room as he keyed in the proper sequence and disappeared... the young DATS agent quite willingly tossing aside his position to take an unauthorized Digital Dive in search of the ancient spirits...

Then, what is he now?
(Warning: Plot spoilers for Digimon: Data Squad follow!)

Gavin did return from the Digital World for a few weeks following the death of Merukimon. By this time, he had formed a pact with a young spirit, and had managed to make contact with Merukimon's follower Gotsumon, who had witnessed the powerful ruler's last stand as well as Kurata's treachery. Though he presented this information before his commander, action could not be taken considering Director Hashima's protection and the arrest of the three DATS Japan agents accompanying Kurata as traitors.

DATS America was unable to take much action during the Kurata Incident, but what little could be done was spearheaded by Gavin at all times. Following the incident, with the sealing of the barrier imminent, Gavin returned to the Digital World again, vowing to seek out the strength of the Beast Spirits and to help to broker peace and cooperation in the wake of King Drasil's destruction.

.... Thus do we find him now, a traveler in the Digital World, seeking the strength of the ancient Digimon, and perhaps the power to truly fight with Tsukaimon...

Extra: Digimon Data
Since some of Tsukaimon's and Gavin's evolutions are original creations, their data will be listed here.

Devimon
Type: Fallen Angel Digimon
Level: Champion
Attribute: Virus
Field: Nightmare Soldiers, Dark Area

A classic "evil" Digimon and the first major antagonist of the franchise. As Gavin's partner, he restrains his evil nature but maintains a mean streak. Devimon is a humanoid figure in black cloth, bearing tattered black wings and a red sigil on his chest. He has abnormally long arms bound in cloth wrappings. Skulls and belts adorn his attire, some seemingly placed at random, with an overall aesthetic more reminiscent of a biker than a demon.

Attacks:
Touch of Evil - A touch-based attack where Devimon extends its already overlong arms. This can deal damage as well as control the opponent's mind and actions.
Evil Wing - A ranged energy slash projected from Devimon's tattered wings.

SkyAngemon
Type: Earthbound Angel Digimon
Level: Ultimate/Perfect
Attribute: Virus
Field: Wind Guardians, Virus Busters

SkyAngemon is a variant on the Champion-level Angemon, the realization of Tsukaimon's desire to do good deeds in despite of her Virus-type nature. He is a humanoid figure in white cloth and a blue surcoat with a single pair of white, feathered wings. He bears a blue translucent visor with sculpted wings to either side and has glowing eyes that shine from beneath it. He also bears a bastard sword with Digital Code engraved on both sides rather than the staff-type weapon normally wielded by Angemon and its line.

Attacks:
Heaven's Knuckle - The signature attack of the Angel-type Digimon. Focuses SkyAngemon's power into a concentrated beam fired from the fist. Owing to his Virus attribute, the attack is tinted violet rather than orange.
Inquisition Blade - A close-range attack utilizing the bastard sword SkyAngemon carries. Of particular effect against other Virus-attribute Digimon.

AegisPatamon
Type: Metal Mammal Digimon
Level: Human Hybrid
Attribute: Variable, Vaccine
Field: Wind Guardians, Metal Empire

Description: A young Digimon spirit met by Gavin during his first disappearance. The top half of AegisPatamon's body is clad in golden armor, only his blue eyes showing beneath the plating. It is smooth and contoured to the body, a separate plate from the main armor covering the top of each of his bat-like wings. Beneath the usual height where Patamon changes color, he is unarmored except for small plates over the front of each leg.

Attacks:
Gale Blaster- A more powerful variant of Air Shot. ArmorPatamon opens its mouth and releases a heavy blast of wind that takes on the form of a sphere, spinning as it flies into the enemy.
Wing Slash- A charging attack. ArmorPatamon rushes forward at high speed, flying past the enemy and striking them with his armored wing as he does so.

[The following form is currently locked and placed in strikethrough to indicate it. Gavin cannot use it until certain events in RP occur and this may not be the final form it takes.]

MaskDevimon
Type: Unsealed Devil Digimon
Level: Beast Hybrid
Attribute: Variable/Virus
Field: Nightmare Soldiers, Wind Guardians

Description: A variant form of NeoDevimon, formed from Gavin uniting with the spirit of one discovered sealed within the Infinite Ice Ridge. The mask said to seal NeoDevimon's will has been torn partly away, exposing Gavin's eyes and the lower half of his face. This alteration, performed by an act of will the first time Gavin merged with the beast spirit, allows MaskDevimon to act on its own will rather than an unseen controller. The wings are a dark grey rather than pitch-black, and his wrappings are cobalt blue instead of red.

Attacks:
Guilty Claw- NeoDevimon's signature attack. A claw attack that turns the enemy's wickedness upon itself.
Sinner's Remorse- MaskDevimon releases a red beam that manipulates the emotions of the opponent, forcing them to confront their crimes in an attempt to force them into immobility.
