Following the collapse of the Draconic Empire, many in the Vraati diaspora remained near the capital city and the surrounding ruins of what were once their internment camps. While they'd never return to their ancestral home, many cultural aspects and traditions survive even to this day within the various Vraati communities scattered across the urban sprawl. What's also survived is the general suspicion and prejudice surrounding them, leading to many of those living in the diaspora experiencing harsh discrimination. While blessed with immense magical talent and a skillful knack for swordplay characterstic of his people, Gillespie was just another victim of this mistreatment. A deep resentment for the world would fester within him, his spite as plain as the two lightning-marred scars streaking across his eye. Even so, his 'usefullness' would afford him opportunities otherwise unobtainable by his fellows, eventually landing him among the ranks of the Nao Venia security forces.
