It’s difficult to pinpoint just what got Gobby, age 9, into the business of paranormal investigation. Perhaps it was the many rumors told during recess about her school being haunted by the ghost of a dead janitor. Perhaps she had simply watched a couple of episodes of a ghost hunting show with her father at some point, and she jumped off of that. Her parents know that it isn’t unusual behavior for their daughter to see something, read something, or hear something and latch onto it. Singing, beauty pageants, cooking; they’re still reeling from her Alaskan crab fisherman phase after her father mistakenly let her watch an episode of Deadliest Catch.
Yet this ‘paranormal investigator’ phase is one that she hasn’t shaken off yet. Spirits, ghouls ghosts, specters, phantoms; whatever you decide to call them, she keeps her eyes peeled for them. So much has been brought about by this simple obsession. She’s converted her room into an office of sorts, and at her insistence her parents have gotten her camera with which to capture the spooks that she hunts. She runs her own little blog, sharing her pictures with the rest of the internet, and prints her own local tabloid that she circulates around the town- as long as there’s paper in daddy’s printer. There was even one night that Gobby told her parents something about running her own radio show, which certainly made her parents double back.
Not just content with ghosts and ghouls, Gobby has recently started to branch her ‘investigative journalism’ into the investigation of monsters and mythical beasts. Whenever she hears a rumor, she goes running, and this is where the more dangerous side of her obsessions is made more apparent; her parents don’t know that she sneaks out in the middle of the night to wander into the spooky woods, nor do they know that the girl likes to break into people’s houses uninvited when she gets even a whiff of the supernatural. They would go crazy if they knew this, but no, Gobby’s insistence to get ‘the scoop’ via any means necessary is a part of their daughter they don’t know about.
It’s only a matter of time before Gabriela Morrison, master journalist and paranormal investigator, gets into trouble that she can’t get out of.
