Amaterasu-ōmikami (天照大神/天照大御神) originally existed on the Celestial Plain, watching over the Celestials and the mortal world as a protector deity. Alongside Waka, she battled Orochi, the eight-headed serpent who attacked and wreaked havoc upon the Celestial Plain. Entangled in the creature's great body, she and Orochi fell down to the human world together. Meanwhile, Waka and the remaining Celestials fled into the Ark of Yamato, where all except Waka perished to an ambush of demons led by Yami, the Emperor of Darkness. During the chaos, Waka crashed the Ark into Nippon, unintentionally unleashing the horde of dark creatures upon the land of mortals. When Waka found Amaterasu again, he told her of a prophecy that had come to him in a vision; Orochi could only be defeated by the Chosen One, a human named Nagi. Amaterasu believed Waka's words, despite the damage he had caused, and waited patiently for Nagi's birth.

With each passing year, Orochi dined on another maiden from Kamiki Village during the annual festival. Before every festival, Amaterasu appeared around the village in the form of a white wolf. The villagers assumed her to be Orochi's familiar, naming her Shiranui and treating her with anger and fear. Nagi often attempted to challenge her, only to be thwarted when "Shiranui" fled the scene. Eventually, enraged by Orochi choosing Nami, whom he loved, to be the 100th sacrifice, Nagi fought Orochi, and through his combined efforts with "Shiranui", he was able to seal Orochi away. "Shiranui", however, apparently died from poisoned wounds inflicted during the battle. Taken back to the village, she was hailed as a hero, and a statue was built in her honor. It was within this statue that her weakened spirit resided for the next 100 years...

Personality

Amaterasu in wolf form keeps with her wolf nature; gentle, loving, utterly loyal to her friends, and is mostly fearless but crushing and relentless towards those with evil in their hearts. She at times falls asleep when people have long talks with her and this may be interpreted as her being easily bored. Perhaps due to Issun's encouragement of "Leap before you think.", she may have become more brash when dealing with certain situations. She always growls in a battle especially in boss battles.

In human form, she is just as gentle, kind and loving, but tends to be a lot more peaceful, as she wants to convey peace upon the world and not allow her humanic form to be associated with battle or strife...that is for her wolven form to take care of...though she is more then capable of defending herself in human form

Holy Artifacts

The Celestial brush
(Human form Only)

"A gift from a friend whom had long since left her."

A beautiful brush that allows her to perform all of her Brush techniques with ease, she only needs it when in human form, as she uses her tail otherwise. Though she wont say who gave her the brush, she guards it with her life.

Water Tablet

"Ancient tablet that allows one to walk on the water's surface."

The Water Tablet is an artifact fashioned long ago by the Moon Tribe. The Water Tablet allows Amaterasu to walk on water, making the Hasugami's Water Lily technique largely obsolete. Some small optional areas can only be accessed by using the tablet to walk upstream on a fast-flowing river.

Fire Tablet

"Ancient tablet that grants the wearer protection from fire."

The Fire Tablet is an artifact fashioned by the Moon Tribe. It allows Amaterasu to swim through boiling lava as if it were water (although the Water Lily technique will not work), and even to create and ride "lava geysers" to reach higher ground. It also gives Amaterasu a limited immunity against fire-using monsters, so that contact with them will no longer reduce her Solar Energy although she may still become Stunned.

Divine Instruments

八咫鏡 Yata no kagami

"Sun-centric Reflector imbued with the burning power of fire."

Yata no Kagami (八咫鏡?) is a sacred mirror that is part of the Imperial Regalia of Japan. It is said to be housed in Ise Shrine in Mie prefecture, Japan, although a lack of public access makes this difficult to verify. The Yata no Kagami represents "wisdom" or "honesty," depending on the source.
Mirrors in ancient Japan represented truth because they merely reflected what was shown, and were a source of much mystique and reverence.

When in battle, The Yata no kagami becomes a powerful shield that she can easily parry off the most powerful of blows as they come toward her, counterattacking with ease. She can also use celestial brush techniques to draw fire off from them.

In human form, it is worn and used as a shield similarly.

八尺瓊勾玉 Yasakani no magatama

"Rosary that calls upon the power of ice to combat wily foes."

The most important magatama is the Yasakani no Magatama, which is part of the Imperial Regalia of Japan. The Yasakani no Magatama stands for benevolence, and is one of the three items used in the ceremony of imperial ascension. In Japanese mythology, the jewels, along with the mirror, were hung on the tree outside of Amaterasu's cave (where she had hidden) to lure her out.

When in battle, the Yasakani no magatama breaks from its string, swirling around Amaterasu. She can use this powerful object to fire the magatama off, either one at a time, or in a shotgun pattern. She can also use celestial brush techniques to draw ice from them.

In human form, she wears this as a necklace, and its uses are similar.

天叢雲剱 Ame no murakumo no tsurugi

"Glaive imbued with thunder spirit. Utilizes lightning power."

Ama no Murakumo no Tsurugi is a legendary Japanese sword, analogous to the British Excalibur, and is one of three Imperial Regalia of Japan. Originally found by Susanoo in the fourth head of Orochi, it was given to Amaterasu as a gift to settle a previous grievance.

When in battle Murkamo no tsurugi is used as...well a sword, swinging and slashing through enemies with the greatest of ease. She can also use celestial brush techniques to draw lightning from them.

In human form she uses this sword as a sword...though she rarely, if ever, draws her blade.

Celestial brush techniques

Sunrise
Japanese name: 日の出 (Hinode)
Drawn: A circle in the sky
Amaterasu's original ability, Sunrise brings out the sun when a circle is drawn in the sky, changing night into day.

Restoration
Japanese name: 画龍 (ga-ryū).
Drawn: Fill in the empty spots.
Restoration is used to fill in missing or broken parts of things, such as bridges, walls...basically anything thats missing or broken can be fixed to some degree.

Crescent
Japanese name: 月光 (gekkō).
Drawn: A crescent moon in the sky.
Crescent's ability is quite simple, and the opposite of Sunrise, it changes night to day.

Power Slash
Japanese Name: 一閃 (issen)
Drawn: A single, straight line
Power Slash is perhaps the most useful and versatile brush technique. Draw a horizontal line to damage enemies, knock down people, cut down vegetation and rocks, ring bells, shatter breakable objects, and deflect projectiles

Galestorm
Japanese name: 疾風 (haya-te)
Drawn: It can be drawn with either a helical loop or a spiral.
Galestorm is one of the most versatile brushstrokes, used mainly for spinning or blowing objects, it creates a powerful gust of wind

Veil of Mist
Japanese name: 霧隠 (kiri-komo).
Drawn:Two horizontal lines
Time will slow down for approximately four seconds, during which Amaterasu can move at normal speeds.

Thunderstorm
Blizzard
Waterspout
Inferno
Japanese name: 迅雷 (jin-rai)
氷雨 (hisame)
水郷 (sui-gō)
紅蓮 (guren)
Drawn: From the element, to the target.
In essence, she is able to draw a line from the source of an element to release it on another point. Such as: Drawing water to put out flames, drawing fire to start a torch, etc etc.

Bloom
Japanese name: 花咲 (hana-saki)
Drawn: Various
An extremely versatile technique.Draw a circle around the center of a plant to restore it to peak condition. Bare trees burst into blossom and drooping Clovers spring up into bright green health.Drawing a circle around people usually improves their spirits, making them pet Amaterasu in wolf form, or give her a hug in human form. Similarly, ordinary animals radiate heart shapes and affectionately rush up to Amaterasu when a Bloom circle is drawn around or near them.Cursed patches of land can be revived by using Bloom to paint over it, in a manner similar to Restoration. Dots on fertile ground spring up into trees. Trees can only be dot-bloomed out of soil; other surfaces such as solid rock, sand or ice are too hard or inhospitable for trees, so they will not grow there.

Water Lily
Japanese name: 水蓮 (mizu-hachisu)
Drawn: Circle in Water.
When a circle is drawn on the surface of the water, this creates a lily pad in the water where Amaterasu can take a break from swimming, allowing her to catch her breath and avoid drowning. The lily pad also provides a platform for her to jump up onto a steep shoreline. A maximum of three lily pads can co-exist at the same time, after which an older pad disappears when a new one is drawn. Combined with Galeforce, she can sail across water with ease.

Vine
Japanese name:蔦巻 (tsuta-maki)
Drawn: line between an open Konohana blossom and a target
When Amaterasu herself is the target, the vine brings her up to the blossom, letting her reach otherwise-inaccessible locations. Most blossoms face upward and allow her to stand on them while she looks around. Downward-facing blossoms will drop Amaterasu as soon as she reaches them. She does not have to wait for the previous vine to release her before creating a new one.Vine can also be used on certain objects with projecting hooks, which will pull the object toward the Konohana blossoms. Multiple hook attachments (one vine per blossom/hook) may be needed for a noticeable effect on the object.

Mist Warp
Japanese Name: 霧飛 (kiribi)
Drawn: A 'X' over a Ultimate Origin Mirror
Teleports Ammy to an Ultimate Origin Mirror in any region she has already visited.

Fireburst
Japanese Name: 爆炎 (bakubonō)
Drawn: An infinity symbol ("the mark of Moegami"), ∞
Summons a ball of fire, Size and duration of the ball depends on how large she draws the mark of moegami.

Whirlwind
Japanese Name: 竜巻 (tatsumaki)
Drawn: Three horizontal lines ("the mark of Kazegami"), ≡
Creates a small tornado around Ammy, damaging nearby enemies. Size and duration are determined by how large she draws the mark of Kazegami.

Deluge
Japanese Name: 恵雨 (kei-u)
Drawn: Two vertical lines, ||
Causes a downpour, halting enemies(barely damaging in the process) and putting out flames.

Fountain
Japanese name: 水飛 (mizushi)
Drawn: A circle or swirl around a mermaid spring
Activates a mermaid spring without the need for a mermaid coin

Thunderbolt
Japanese name: 雷怒った (Kaminari okotta)
Drawn: A vertical zigzag ("the mark of Gekigami")
Summons lightning to strike a foe, the larger the bolt drawn, the more powerful it strikes.

Icestorm
Japanese name: 大吹雪 (Dai fubuki)
Drawn: A 'X' with a line going through it horizontally, *
Summons ice shards to freeze or damage objects. The larger its drawn, the more shards will appear.
