Groack

There are lines that should not be crossed. The experiments that lead to the creature that is called 'Groack' are among them.

The chimeric creature called Groack was originally two different creatures; one was a human, an apprentice to the wizard that created the hybrid, the other was a ordinary swamp frog. Now, Groack is both and yet neither of the creatures. The name of the human is lost, her personality a mystery. What she once was is now no more, save that part of her was used to create the chimera. The species of frog used isn't even known and can only be guessed at. The result is that Groack is an entirely new creature. The hows and whys of the creature's creation are unknown and probably never will be; what is known is that the creature has been loosed upon the world by either accident or intent and that it's operating of it's own volition... and that it's very hungry.

Groack is not a particularly intelligent creature; the human intellect that once guided it has eroded considerably, leaving the creature barely capable of speech and with only limited higher cognitive talent. It's name, 'Groack', is in fact not actually it's name... it's just a sound that it constantly makes and has become appended to it as it's moniker. It's begun referring to itself as Groack and it appears as if the creature doesn't realize that it once had a name. That said, the creature does possess a certain 'low cunning', making it dangerous despite it's lack of mental acuity. It has a predator's mindset and, unfortunately, considerable physical talents to make it a lethal hunter of humanoid targets. It, perhaps, goes without saying, that it is considerably more dangerous in the water then out of it.

Groack primarily inhabits swamps, coming forth to hunt for food when the local game is scarce. Often, the local game gets scarce because of Groack's over hunting. The creature has a rapid metabolism and anything that can fit into it's mouth is a potential meal. It does, however, show a preference for elves before other humanoid races; it could be their innate magical talents are better 'fuel' for the chimera, or it could simply like their taste... or it may even be some kind of lingering racist sentiment from the person that Groack used to be. The truth may never be known and Groack is, itself, not a particularly social monster. If it's even cerebral enough to know the reason.

Groack poses a threat to farmers and other peasants that live on the outskirts of small settlements. Thus far, Groak has been observed to avoid larger cities, though it could be disasterous if she were to overcome her fear of crowds and use the filth infested sewers as stalking grounds. Several adventurers have perished inside the creature's gut and the bounty on the creature's head is starting to become considerable, indeed.

Alternate Continuity
Groack also works as a sci-fi monster instead of as a fantasy style one; simply replace 'wizard' with 'mad scientist' and other such small changes and it's perfectly workable in a modern day setting.
