Appearance
Starting from the top, Ren has blue hair, it was darker as a child, almost purple but has faded into the blue color it is now, it is tied up in a pony tail at all times by a precious red ribbon. He seems to become self conscious when it's down and therefore is rarely, if ever, seen wearing it down. Moving down he has soft, somewhat pale skin, his eyes are almost always closed, or half open at most, giving him a vulpine expression. When open one can see they are a soft reddish pink color. Overall his facial features can be considered quite feminine and he is often mistaken for a young lady, something he finds flattering rather than offensive. His overall build is much like his face, he is slender and lithe. He wears various types of Japanese wear, usually Kimonos or Yukata depending on where he is and the time of the year, he prefers to dress comfortably. When out and about, or in places he deems dangerous he wears his sword sheathed at the small of his back in a horizontal fashion.
History(Brief)
Ren and his twin sister Ran were born to their mother Kiku Hanai on October seventeenth, in the year 1877. Their mother was a powerful demon Succubus, in their world pregnancy is much different than it is in our world. Sex is generally carried out in the world of dreams. And so conception...is tricky at best and not worth explaining (No one in Rens world knows exactly how new Succubi and Incubi are created). Being as powerful as she was, she had never really intended to have a child. Knowing that one single child would be imbued with too much of her power she split the soul of her unborn child in two, creating twins. The plan worked and instead of creating one unstable, powerful demon child, she created two, still very powerful, demon twins. In the end the plan worked, and as the twins grew older it was clear they'd be able to live a normal healthy life and were completely in control of their power. The twins grew up together, formally being of one soul they found themselves almost inseparable as children and teenagers, where one was, the other wasn't far behind. Despite being nobility they eventually elected to join the Hakuren, The White Lotus, the force that protects their world from invaders, acting as a military in times where it is needed, and as a police force at other times. Ran joined the secretive Black Ops division of the forces and quickly rose to the position of Division Captain within just a few years. Ren opted for another Combat Division however the Division itself is considered a sort of Combat Medic Brigade, at times of peace the Divisions Headquarters acts as the Hospital. Ran found this decision deplorable, insisting Ren is squandering his talent in a Division that isn't focused on combat, however to this day Ren hasn't budged in his decision and has risen to the Division Captain position himself. When not working they can be found at the Hanai Estate, training, or spending time with their mother.
Personality
Ren is overall quite pleasant. He is friendly and open to most anyone, his patients at the Hospital often comment on how at ease and safe they feel around him. He seems to exude both strength and a gentle aura in tandem. He is however a Demon and is naturally sinful in some ways. In his downtime or during any occasion that could possibly call for it, he enjoys to partake in Alcohol. He can be very flirtatious, though it rarely has any intent behind it, and is simply to keep him from being bored as the reactions from his victims tend to entertain him. He is also known for occasionally using his looks to get what he wants unabashedly. He seems to be extremely lighthearted. Under all this however is a shrewd and very complex young man that few outside of his immediate family ever see. His sense of Duty is strong, he is quick to leap to the defense of the Hanai family or his comrades in the Hakuren. Selfless to a fault he is almost constantly having to be reminded by his mother, sibling, friends, comrades, that his own life is very important, not only as a leader, but to his loved ones and as one of two heirs to the Hanai family. He speaks in a calm manner in most any situation, even combat, with a somewhat noticeable Scottish accent, though it isn't thick enough to make him hard to understand.
Abilities
Ren wields a powerful Ice Element soul blade called Hakuhime, she manifests as an elegant young woman of ethereal beauty who seems to resemble a Yuki-onna of Japanese myths. She wears a white Kimono, has light blue hair and blue eyes that seem to glow softly at all times. While Ren has few innate powers, he is a skilled martial artist and can use his wings as a powerful shield, or use a technique that causes him to seemingly burst into a flurry of bats, only to appear somewhere else moments later. He is also quite skilled with his sword. In his realm a soul weapon is manifested through tireless work with ones weapon, once it becomes like an extension of the persons body, one can awaken a sleeping power in their weapon, giving it new form based on their own soul. Rens dislike for violence manifested in his blades edge being on the wrong side, meaning most strikes are with blunt force, though if need be he can still use the deadly tip of the weapon to wreak havoc on foes. He can also unleash Hakuhimes ice based powers to attack his foes at range. Ren is very skilled in the healing arts, though not magical, his ability to treat wounds and tend to the sick is well known among the Hakuren. He always carries a small pouch attached to the obi of his outfit which carries various salves and healing supplies should he need them. Ren is also known for his agility, using the environment against his foes with complicated flips and leaps, his speed is well known. He possess' the standard powers of the Incubus as well, dream walking, and seduction.

Emporers Palace
The theme of their Netherworld isn't quite the usual, they are commonly called "The Netherworld Of Blossoms" by other worlds and Celestia itself. It is aptly named as the central area of the Netherworld is covered in beautiful flowers. The Palace itself is off limits to commoners and so very few have even been inside. In the same area is the Assembly Hall where the Dark Council meets to debate the creation of new laws and other political matters. It also acts as a Court House in the case of a crime needing to be tried. The room itself is furnished with many pew like benches to house participants of trials, While seven high backed chairs sit on top of a raised area, where the Seven Court Judges sit during trials or when hearing a proposition for new laws and other matters. The Great Library is also set in this central palace area, special permission is needed to enter this place, this is where the history of their world is kept, some say there is forbidden books there, containing dark secrets that could create chaos if they were revealed.
水仙 (Suisen) Academy
The Academy is set just outside of the Palace and the center of the city. It is a massive location filled with quite a few buildings, Class Rooms, Training Fields, and Dormitories for the students. Getting into the school is not easy, one must pass an entrance exam like any other school, the test usually tests aptitude, if any, with magic. It also tests ones combat skill with martial arts and sword play. The test can be retaken as many times as the academy holds entrance exams. Due to the difficulty of getting in, some take on an Elitist attitude, though others are humbled at acceptance and take their lessons to heart. These promising hopefuls are often recruited into the Hakuren. Students are required to wear a uniform while attending classes or training, the Males are required to wear a white under shirt, with a black kosode over it. They wear black hakama for bottoms and sandals on their feet. The females where a red undershirt instead of white, but otherwise wear the same uniform. Students that are accepted can spend four to six years in the academy, though if one can pass the final examinations they can graduate early. They are taught at a more elevated education level than most schools in the world, they are trained specifically in martial arts, weapon play, magic (if they are capable) and if they exhibit any special abilities, bloodline powers, a special aptitude for one type of weapon or martial art style, they are given focused training on said ability to help them develop it to it's maximum potential. After graduation students are free to pursue whatever life they choose, though most often elect to apply for admission into the Hakuren.
Hakuren Headquarters
The Hakuren are divided into Seven Divisions, each with a special Duty to Kakutasu Town. With the exception of Division 7 they all have a specialty or some special duty. Each has their own grounds where their Barracks sit, which house the Captains Offices and the living quarters for the members of the Division. Acceptance into the Hakuren is difficult, though Graduating the Academy tends to improve ones odds! The Hakuren divisions tend to wear Elegant White Kimonos, though this seems to be the only dress code as a person can add whatever they like to said uniform.
Divisions
Division 1- They are known for taking in High Level graduates from the academy, those that are skilled in Magic, Sword Play, and Martial Arts. They tend to be at odds with other Divisions as they tend to turn up their noses at the others. It doesn't help that they are held in high regard by the Dark Council and the Overlord himself, enough so that their barracks are situated near the Assembly Hall itself on the palace grounds. They are led by a Yuki-Onna named Mai Nakahara. She is known for being serene and calm, even a little shy at times. She is the eldest Captain, though she doesn't look it, and gets extremely embarrassed when mentioned. Her Soul Weapon is unknown as she tends to use her mastery of Cryokinesis.
Division 2- This Division is known for accepting those skilled in Swordplay, speed and stealth. These are the Black Ops unit, secretive and mysterious. Members often discard their identities and wear masks to be truly effective as a member. Their missions are often based in secrecy, though they are also used as scouts in times of need. The barracks themselves are more secluded than others and those that are not from the Division are rarely allowed entry. Their captain is the Succubus Ran Hanai, who is rumored to be the fastest Demon in the Netherworld. Her Soul Weapon takes the form of a red short blade. She is known for her stubborn personality and unbending resolve. She is known to do whatever it takes to accomplish her missions.
Division 3- This Division takes in most anyone willing to devote themselves to the aid of others. They are also the only known Division to accept any creature with aptitude for Holy or Healing magic. Their grounds also house the hospital for Kakutasu town. Other Divisions often look down on them for their stance on combat, which tends to be passive. Their captain is the Incubus Ren Hanai, he has little affinity for Healing Magic but has shown great ability to treat wounds via natural methods, and his bedside manner is well known to anyone that has visited the hospital. His Soul Weapon takes the form of a white short blade.
Division 4- This Division takes in those skilled in sword play and have a strong adherence to the laws of their world and a willingness to enforce them, although the Hakuren is a police force in it's nature, the 4th Division is known to be on scenes of crimes before any other Division. They value justice above all else, although Justice in the Netherealm can be complicated as certain crimes we would consider heinous, aren't crimes at all, such as defending oneself from an attacker and killing them.(There would be no trial if enough witness' attested that the person was defending themselves.) They are led by a Demon named, Hayate Ito, who's true form, if he has one, is unknown. He appears as a calm, collected and handsome man. He has exhibited immense strength even without his weapon drawn. As a result no one knows what his Soul Weapon is.
Division 5- This Division values strength above all else, skilled sword play and skill with martial arts are valued highly when looking for potentials. This Division is regarded by the Overlord to be the right hand of the Hakuren during times of war or when combat is needed, they often the first on scene during a monster attack or an invasion from another Netherworld. Their captain is a Female Vampire named, Chouko Kita. She is known for her brilliant smile and compassionate nature, she also despises killing sentient beings. Ironic considered the Division she rose to the top of. However it isn't unwarranted, her power, even while not Awakened, has shown to be absolutely monstrous, able to put down S class demons in one blow, so the rumors say. She has never shown her Soul Weapon and therefore no one knows its shape.
Division 6- This Division values Magical Aptitude above all else and is often only interested in those skilled with various types of Magic, and those with an interest in the research of new Magic. They sometimes get quite a bit of flak from other Divisions, especially 6th for their focus on Magic ability rather than ones ability in combat, they do however enjoy the company of the 3rd Division who place a value on Magic as well. Their grounds also house The Magic Research Lab and Library. Their Captain is actually a powerful human Witch named Akane Fujimoto. She is known for her ability to go toe to toe with other Division captains on even ground despite being human. She also harnessed the, yet unlearned by any other, magic of using plant life. Her Soul Weapon takes the form of a wand. She is known for her loyal personality, she carries herself like a noble woman, sophisticated and proper.
Division 7- This Division lives by the sword, and dies by the sword, they have no real official duty, but they were given a Division number and Barracks simply because of their abilities. The only applicants the Division considers for entry are those who fight with edged weapons, they care nothing for Martial Arts experts, and despise those that use magic in battle, as well as healing, as they feel injuries are part of being a warrior, they often outright refuse treatment unless they are unconscious. They are led by a male demon named Katsuo Motou, his species is unknown. His soul weapon takes the form of a large two handed blade that is nearly as long as he is, and wide. He is known for his immense strength, stamina and endurance. As well as being a sadist...
Hanai Estate
The Hanai Estate sits just inside of what might be considered the "Rich" sector of the town. The grounds are well maintained, the grass is cut neatly and the ponds are kept clean at all times. The estate itself is more of a mystery simply because only Hanai are allowed inside generally, though anyone can visit the grounds if they have reason, though one cannot simply walk in. The Hanai are nobility and have been for generations, though their family seems to be fading just a bit as there are few pure blood Hanai left.
カクタス (Kakutasu)
The main town itself is a sprawling place filled with residential areas and market districts. One can find just about anything they need, from Restaurants and Grocery stores, to Flower shops, to weapon and armor salesmen! The residential areas vary from poor to upper-middle class. This is where the majority of the population of their world is focused.
Blazing Core
This place is considered quite off limits and is situated outside the safe walls to the South of Kakutasu Town, on the edge of the wastes. Molten Lava flows across the harsh, barren terrain. The environment is dangerous to most any denizen to the world. Though some monsters call this area home, high concentrations of Undead can be found here, the reason for their gathering is unknown.
Nexus Graveyard
An eerie location where a rift appeared centuries ago, over the course of time objects and even creatures from other realities have found themselves here. Some creatures venture her to collect rare treasures, though it's extremely dangerous. These hunters are often regarded with admiration for their courage. Although some consider them foolish of course. The Graveyard is located near the edge of The Wastes.
Forsaken Snowfield
A beautiful land located to the North of Kakutasu, it's environment is considered one of the harshest due to the bitter cold. Many Martial Artists, Mages and Swordsmen make a journey to the Snowfield to test their fortitude, training in the icy depths of the Snowfield. There is a rumor that an all female village of warriors exists somewhere in the snow field.
Forest of The Dead
This dark, humid forest exists on the Eastern part of the Netherrealm, outside of Kakutasu. It is rumored those that get lost in this forest are never seen again. The trees are tall and thick and block out most if not all light in some areas. The woods are exceedingly thick and it's very easy to get lost inside, there is rumor, much like the Snowfield, that a Village of Warriors lives somewhere in the forest.
Monsters and Demons
The "Demon"
Some demons belong to no specific genre, and are simply called "Demons" as a general name. They tend to have pointed ears and fangs, occasionally they also have bat like wings. This can be because they don't know their race or because they are simply a generic demon. Like any demon they possess the superhuman strength and durability, but rarely have any other powers. What follows are the most common species of Demons that belong to specific species. All demons species are capable of masquerading in a human like form, though it isn't required.
Humans- The only humans that exist in the Netherrealm are those that found their way into the world via portals, seeking power or the like. They are also sometimes humans corrupted by a demon and brought to the Netherworld to live.
Jorougumo- A dangerous, but intelligent type of demon that is only female. They take basic forms to blend in with society, but they are actually spider monsters. They appear beautiful, they use these charms to mystify foolish men and devour them. Their threads make gorgeous outfits, but are more often used to restrain prey. The male version is called the Tsuchigumo.
Lamia- Another female only species of Demon, their upper body is human, while their lower body is that of a snake. They have a strange tip to their tail that spreads open much like a flower, once attatched to ones head it douses them in some hypnotic substance. They often use males for sexual means, and females as servants. Although males that they find very attractive can also be turned into servants!
Medusa- These demons are called Gorgons as well at times. They are built like the average Demon in a human build. Their hair however is made of many snake like appendages. They are often beautiful women, though male versions do exist! Powerful Gorgons can turn someone to stone with a glance, less powerful and more common ones however must bite their victims with their snakes. They possess superhuman strength, durability and agility as most Demons do.
Mermaids- Mermaids are very uncommon and are considered to be one of the weaker demonic races in their world, as outside of water they are mostly on the same level as humans as far as strength goes. These types of mermaids draw life from victims to maintain their beauty and to nourish themselves. However if they find a victim they really fancy, they will devour them whole and alive to add them to their body in a twisted romantic gesture. They often take on human forms to blend in with society.
Mermen- Uncommon like their female counterpart, they do have one advantage in that they can take in water and fire it from their mouth in a compressed blast that can do quite a bit of damage. Otherwise they aren't different from their female counterparts.
Neko- Neko do exist in the Demon realm, however unlike the human worlds version who just sport ears and a tail and are otherwise just humans. The Demonic versions tend to have actual paws on their hands and feet, they walk on two legs like a human but are capable of moving on all fours if need be, they are known for their affinity to martial arts and physical strength and endurance.
Sirens- These creatures appear mostly human, in their true form they have large wings, almost looking like a Celestian. They posses a hypnotic song that can take control of weak willed beings that hear it. They can also use their voices as sonic weapons, shattering concrete as if it were glass. These demons are among the few that seem to have a natural affinity for magic, especially Green Magic.
Succubus/Incubus- They are often grouped together or called Succubi as a collective due to the fact there are no real gender differences from the normal ones anatomically. They rarely look very different in their true forms either, they generally have bat like wings, talons, and thin spade tipped tails. Their main power is seduction, which can be used to utterly control the opposite gender. They can also enter peoples dreams, their tail tips split much like the Lamias and press to the victims head, allowing them entrance into the mind of the person.
Vampires- A very common demon type, they drink the blood of other beings and occasionally animals. Despite how common they are, they are known for their exceptional strength and tend to have a natural aptitude for battle. They possess a large amount of stamina and a healing factor, making them very difficult to kill. They also are capable of shape shifting. For all their power, they do however have quite a few weaknesses. Pure water, Blessed items.
Werewolf- Werewolves are another demon that is fairly common and considered powerful by most. In their standard forms they appear as a normal member of whatever species they were previously, in their true form they appear as large humanoid beasts, sporting double-jointed legs, wolf tails, and a muscular body covered in hair. They possess tremendous physical strength even among demons.
Witch/Warlocks/Sorcerers- The only type of human that is often accepted into their world as one of them eagerly are these types. They are born with a natural Affinity for all types of offensive magic, making them quite valuable. They are uncommon still however, as few humans reach a level where they can effectively open gateways into the Netherrealm.
Kitsune- One of the highest level demons. Often finding themselves in positions of nobility and power. They resemble Werewolves in some ways, in that they tend to have a wild mane of hair, and animal ears and often nine tails. However they are not covered in hair and are much slimmer. They possess considerable strength, endurance and speed. Simply exuding their demonic auras is enough to wreak havoc on the area around them. They have a natural affinity for Red magic, and are also gifted with the natural power of something they call Fox Fire, which is a flame more powerful than any Red Magic can generate.
Yuki-Onna- Another powerful demon, they are female only and have a nasty habit of freezing travelers in the Snowfields to have "Company", often not realizing their victims are dead. They will also abduct males they take a fancy to. They have the power to manipulate ice and snow naturally, and have an affinity for Blue Magic. Some live in the Snowfields, preferring the cold, though some have been known to move to the city.
The Monster
These creatures are generally separated from the usual demons because more often than not they are unintelligent monsters, or creatures of war and battle that present a danger to travelers and other demons.
Cyclops- Wild creatures low on intelligence. The tend to stand around 12 feet in Height. They have one single eye in the middle of their forehead. They also have legs similar to goats, and have cloven hooves. They have superhuman strength, even among demons. They lack depth perception and intelligence however and therefore pose little threat to most with any combat skill. Cyclops can be found poking around in the Nexus for things to fashion into weapons. They can also be found in the Blazing Core, and more rarely the Forest Of The Dead.
Ghouls- The undead are created when evil spirits possess a corpse. They feed on living flesh and meat, specifically that of easier victims, children or fresh cadavers if possible. They are extremely weak to Divine Magic, however this is mastered by few Demons at most, and so can sometimes be dangerous. They are strong and have quite a bit of endurance, however the brain no longer functions at a level they can use these abilities to any effect. Ghouls can be found most anywhere, though they are found in great numbers in the Forest of The Dead.
Lizardmen- A race of warrior hunters, they keep to themselves and do not enter the central town of the netherworld, they value strength and power above all else and are only concerned with battle prowess. Despite this, they are very intelligent, making them dangerous enemies if encountered outside of the town. They are found in great numbers in the Blazing Core, often hunting the undead for sport. They are occasionally encountered in the Nexus and Forests, though they are never find in the Snowfield....unless dead from the cold.
Mukadegami- A monster that falls in with the dangerous types such as Lizardmen, encountering one in the wild can be very dangerous. They can grow up to ten meters, sometimes larger. They appear to be gigantic centipedes, they have a voracious appetite and are harmful to both humans and animals whom they will eat without hesitation. There horrifying creatures can be found most anywhere.
Plants- These demons are somewhat unique in that they are built like a human being, but tend to be green. They are often attached to plants of varying types and sizes, Venus Flytraps, Pitcher Plants, the like. They rarely move into town, but have been seen before, this keeps them from being classified as demons. They tend to frequent the Forest of Death, the less intelligent types lure victims to them with pheromones where they consume them. The more intelligent ones...still lure victims to them and eat them, but are also capable of carrying on a conversation and even potentially moving into town.
Trolls- Another monster that falls into the hostile category. They are a large warrior race with immense strength, they live in any place where they can stage ambushes on passerby. Usually stealing whatever they own before killing them, rarely do they spare anyone knowingly, though some escape Troll attacks to report them. Trolls can be found most anywhere, though they appear often in the Forest Of The Dead and the Nexus.
Wyverns- A hostile monster that is much like a dragon but smaller than real ones, it also lacks intelligence or any really dangerous battle skills. However it can still be dangerous when attacking those traveling outside of the safety of Kakutasu, simply because of their flying abilities and poisonous barb on their tail. Wyverns are found in any location, and attacks on travelers are frequent.
