Hanori

Background:

Hanori was born into a rich goldsmithing family in the city of Taihan, a wealthy, economic capital of her region. Although she was a girl, her family still trained her in their craft despite preparations being made for her brother to take over the family business. Regardless, Hanori was never too resentful of this, wishing to remain separate from dealing with the aristocrats and nouveau riche that frequented her shop. Regardless, her day to day life was uneventful, the girl focusing on honing her craft and picking up other skills.

In the midst of her studies, Hanori became particularly interested in decorative weapons that wealthy military families often commissioned. Gold was so malleable and delicate, especially in the pure forms that Hanori's family worked with. Steel or iron were so much more durable. She had never really thought about it before, but didn't that mean her work was so much more vulnerable to wear over the years? Curious, she began to study the art of weapon making, as well.

Hanori's dexterous fingers made her work beautiful but her lack of any real strength made her weapons impractical to use. As such, she mainly contented herself with making decorative or ritual arms. Because these swords and muskets were quite common to carry as a symbol of status within military households, soon enough other families began to take notice of the seal Hanori left on all of her work. Eventually, there was so much interest in her work that her parents goldsmithing shop was overflowing with people wishing to commission the family's daughter, instead. Recognizing this issue and not wanting to inconvenience her parents, Hanori moved out, looking for a place to hone her craft without hampering anyone else's business.

Thus, Hanori sought the help of a rich friend, who offered to sell her a plot of land on any of his properties. The island immediately caught her eye- a quiet place would be nice, and being out of the way might serve to make her works seem more exotic or collectable. The relatively low price also made it particularly interesting to her. Taking the deed and paying on the spot, Hanori thanked her friend.

With the assistance of her family, Hanori built her own weapons shop from scratch- no other weaponsmiths were inclined to help her because of competition. After nearly a year of renovations, Hanori's shop opened up. Just a small boat ride from Taihan, she still gets visitors to this day, though her outskirts location means that she gets less people coming to her shop out of curiosity, which befits her.

Personality:

Hanori, or Nori for short, is a hard-working girl with the remnants of her rich lifestyle still present in her. She is passionate about her craft and can often talk someone's ear off over it, though she has to keep her secrets of the trade to herself. Her distance from her family makes her quite lonely, at times, though her monetary standing makes it easy to take days off and see them when she desires.

Despite her good intent, she often finds it difficult to interact with poor or even common people. Their struggles are so far removed from her comfortable lifestyle that it makes it hard for her to sympathize correctly. Though, she tries to give what she can, spending much of her money anonymously donating to the reconstruction of her city's arts centers and housing development. Although, she gets often frustrated with how it seems many charities in her merchant town are either inept or, at the worst, fraught with corruption.

Nori still has much to learn about her craft. There are still many weapons she has no idea how to make. Living on her own means she has less time than before to study these other weapons, and the other weaponsmiths refuse to interact with her unless she would pay a hefty price for the information.

Nori is also quite a cautious person. Being from a rich family and on her lonesome is one reason: it makes her a good target for potential kidnappings and ransom. Secondly, she is fearful that the other weaponsmiths may target her someday to try and drive her out of business or torture her secrets out of her. Such cutthroat tactics are not beyond the merchants of Taihan.

Her works:

Nori can make decorative swords, daggers, lances, or even muskets and pistols, which are the most common weapons in Taihan. She can also make just about any typical goldsmithing work, such as rings, crowns, mirrors, or other small trinkets. However, she mostly refrains from selling such items nowadays, favoring ritual weapons are her specialty.

Nori's works are quite expensive. She sees no reason an aristocrat or wealthy merchant wouldn't be able to dish out the cash, and she likes to redistribute the wealth how she sees fit. Also, it funds her ability to learn more from other weaponsmiths.

Nori still has a lot more to learn about weaponsmithing, though, and will likely take an interest into whatever weapons you have on your hip.
