The Forsaken Daughter |

Who's to blame For the pain of the wicked? Helbound in her lonely crown And only the one eyed knows why |
Have you ever sat in a dark room, utterly alone, knowing well that no one will come to speak with you? Imagine, will you, dear reader, being alone like that for countless centuries. Perhaps one of your family comes to speak with you once in a millenia, when he remembers you exist. It's not that he doesn't care, you tell yourself, it's because you're so out of the way of his normal life that he has to make special time to come and visit. Imagine, what such horrific loneliness could do to someone. What it could do to you, your perception of others. What you imagine, reader, is the life of poor Hel, mistress of Helheim. She who was born half-living, cast away by her own mother AngrboĆ°a for fear that the child was cursed. Grandfather Odin took pity on the young child and took her to the realm of the dead. Not Valhalla, for she was but a child and had no right to dwell within the hall of warriors. No, she who had no name was brought to Hel, the realm of all other dead. Hel is not a bad place. During the spring, it can be quite nice, if dreary. The dead are not tortured, but their existece is quite bland. The child, though she was not alive, was not quite dead, either. Her immortal soul would not allow her stillborn body to perish, and so she dangled on the line between life and death. What this meant for a young girl growing up amongst the dead was that she did not quite fit. The dead were kind to her, but she was not truly of them, and so they could not really accept her as one of their own. Her father visited regularly, but as she grew older, his visits petered and finally slowed to a crawl, for he knew as well as she did that she was far from the most capable of his children. And so the young woman languished, taking the name of the realm upon which she had been foistered, in turn taking the realm upon her own immortal shoulders, and in her deathless state serving as the guide for lost souls between the Midgard and Niflheim. The dead, however, make for poor companionship, and after centuries alone with only the dead for company, Hel began to crack. Her attempted kidnapping of Thor is quite well known, as is her refusal to release Baldr. She desperately craves a companion, a friend, a lover, anyone to break the cold monotany of her life, but her twofold curse is in her ghastly visiage, which strikes fear in the hearts of even the most seasoned warriors, and her own realm, Hel, a cold place only fit for the dead, which she cannot leave for long before the very fabric of reality drags her back. Death is no escape for her, for she cannot die, just as she cannot live. And so Hel is destined to an eternity of sorrow and loneliness, alone in her cold fortress of the dead. The child who never had the chance to live, left alone to mourn her own existence; 'til the day Ragnarok finally grants her sweet release. |
Something very important to understand about Hel before going into a scene with her is that she's not evil. she doesn't really want to hurt anyone, the opposite, in fact. She likes seeing people happy and doesn't like seeing people sad. She's not the cruel tyrant of Helheim, she's well-liked by the dead and widely considered to be a good ruler. This is my interpretation of the mythical character and is not fully intended to be completely faithful to myth and legend, though I will try my best to keep her consistent. This is in complete contrast to her reputation, a reputation she has gained from her tantrums of loneliness. She has according to norse legend kidnapped and stolen away various mortals and gods alike that she finds attractive. Most of the time they trick her or manipulate her into releasing them, because frankly, she's already blinded by her adoration for them, and it's not hard to exploit that. Most encounters with Hel will end NON-LETHALLY. when it comes to vore, unwilling endo is her stock and trade. She wants you to be hers, she doesn't want to make you part of her. She herself is extremely subby, but her domme streak is what most people see. What Hel wants most, more than anything else, is a metaphorical (Or literal, she works in pretty much any time period) knight in shining armor to hold her in strong arms and comfort her. In a relationship, she is EXTREMELY subby and very, very clingy, but not particularly jealous. All she cares about is that you don't leave her alone for too long. She's largely willing to accept any level of kinky shit for someone that legitimately cares about her, up to and including being degraded and ingested. Caution, she tends to not sit well with most mortal stomachs. It's not really her fault, it's just that mortal stomachs don't handle rotting immortal flesh well. Be as cruel to her or kind as you like. Really, truly, you cannot possibly make her any more sad and lonely. She would even consider an abusive relationship a step up from her current plight.
