SURVEY
Jane had always been something of a tomboy, much to the chagrin of her noble family. Girls like her were supposed to practice at playing house, not laying ambushes for "bandits" in the manor halls. But Jane had no intention of being married off so her father could own a few more acres of land; when suitors started calling, she sent a desperate application to the prestigious Marunomia Adventure Academy — and earned a spot. Her father forbade her from attending; not so easily dissuaded, Jane ran away.
At the Academy, the talents that had gotten her into so much trouble at home were instead encouraged and nurtured. It quickly became clear that Jane was exceptionally talented, and she graduated at the top of her class.
Yet she let neither her noble blood nor the honor of her placement go to her head. She remained personable, if a little sassy; on patrol, she made a point of always stopping to talk with children who ran out to ogle. She never forgot her lonely beginnings, and so made a point of warmly encouraging those looking to follow in her footsteps.
In doing so, Jane became an icon to a generation of adventurers: a friendly face for the Survey Corps, and an inspiration to young girls across the region. Yet, when offered a transfer to Administration in order to devote herself fully to outreach, Jane said no: she had always known her place was in the field.
As expected of an MAA valedictorian, Jane will make an excellent adventurer.
Some difficulty with heavier weapons, but those are poorly suited to her fighting style anyway. No magical abilities whatsoever.

For a girl who'd slain dragons, it should have been an easy job. Experienced parties went "missing" all the time: it wouldn’t have been the first time a hunting party added a few days to their itinerary to go camping on Guild time. Find them, issue a stern talking to, and drag them back to the Guild — that was the plan.
Unfortunately for Jane — to say nothing of the team she was supposed to save — it wasn't one of those times. The party turned up in a pile. And Jane herself?
She put up a fight, but it wasn't enough. The recovery team found only her arm, still bravely clutching that sword of hers. They never found the rest...but then, they didn't have to. They knew well enough the monster's calling card: white feathers, from neither bird nor beast. No one, not even an Academy valedictorian, made it out when she was involved.
The end of Jane was the end of an era. She had been a bright light in a dreary profession — and when that light was snuffed out, the whole world seemed to become a little darker. Recruiting never quite recovered: after all, if Jane Kazeno of all people could wind up dead, what doe-eyed novice was going to try for an adventure themselves?
