Kashifah

Djinni. Mystical, cursed beings of the ancient Arabian world. Desirous of ultimate power, they were granted it... but this power would be bound to wishes. The power to make any desire a reality... but only able to use that power at another's behest, and bound to use it at their command. Almost every man, woman and child in our world knows of the story; find the genie's lamp and they are your slave, bound to grant any three wishes, their phenomenal cosmic powers existing solely to be used for -your- benefit.

... ask Kashifah here for a wish and she'll just giggle at you. She is, after all, one of those rare occurrences, a free djinni! After thousands of years and string after string of masters, some good, others twits, one in particular that liked calling her out of her lamp solely to let her read his many, many books and scrolls, one last master came to care deeply for her, and offered to free her if she would listen to one last wish that only a free girl could grant. To both, she agreed.

Of course, all that was almost two hundred years ago, that last kindly master dead now. Kashifah is, understandably, still trying to adjust herself to life outside her lamp (which she keeps around as a memento, plus it -does- work quite nicely, as you can see in the picture above!) As mentioned before, the nigh-unlimited powers of a djinni are linked to wishes; without a wish to grant they have only the barest of magics at their disposal, limited essentially to basic cantrips and the preservation of their life and appearance. For someone who used to be able to alter reality itself with a snap of her fingers, this is rather jarring!

At the same time it's an opportunity. With all those years and stories and masters, Kashifah has come to admire one thing above all else, and that's the ability of humans to make their own wishes and desires come through (something a djinni is, by their very nature, incapable of doing). Indeed, through the years she came to only twist the wishes of those using her as a shortcut. Those using her only as an aid towards gaining what they dreamed found their wishes granted just as they envisioned, and perhaps with just a little more.

So now? Why, now she wants the power to make -her- wishes come true! (Never mind that she forgot to actually think what wishes those might be.) So of course she wanders now, wanting to gain the power to do just that.

... so of course she's trying to learn magic! Clearly nothing can go wrong~

And that's Kashifah. Coy and playful, respectful of people who make their wishes come true, and seeking the power and magic she once had to grant her own (when she remembers to think of them). Just have a care, she -is- a djinni still, after all~
