"Ah, crap! That's the fifth one this week!"


Katherynn Zander is a dragoness. But, like she cousin Ryukura, she was not always one. However, it was because of her that her cousin found the Draconomicon. After all, it was originally in her possession.

Kathy had always been interested in dragons. It became somewhat of an obsession. She wanted to know how they might have lived, thought, bred, ate, and became the powerful, magical creatures that she had read about in all of those fantastic stories.

One day, in a farther section of her local library, she began searching about for another reference book on dragons. And there it was: the Draconomicon. Quickly taking it home, she couldn't stop herself from reading it until her eyes were red and she began suffering long nights of sleep deprivation.

She read the tome for over five days straight, stopping only to have small meals and drink and do other things necessary to stay alive and well.

But after a while, she began to realize her body was changing. At first, it was subtle. Her sense of smell was heightened. Then all her senses became super-sharp. She found also that she didn't need to sleep, having not lost any energy from sleep deprivation. She discovered also that she didn't necessarily need to eat or drink after a while; she only did because she wanted to.

One day, she had to stay home from any activities. Her whole body was in searing pain. Laying in bed, swallowing painkillers like they were candy, she writhed and squirmed. Finally, from sheer exhaustion, she fell into a deep sleep. The next morning, she awoke to a surprise.

Her usual 5' 7" self turned into 9' tall, her body sinking into the bed and making it creak from her weight. Instead of the soft skin of a human, she had scales, but still had the malleability of human skin. Her fingernails had become claws. Crossing her eyes, she could see a long muzzle. And her tail lashed in utter confusion.

She had become an anthropomorphic dragon!

It took her a full three days to get used to her new body; getting adjusted to the utter height and weight, as well as finding out how to properly balance her long tail (which is nearly as long as she is tall, and extremely prehensile she discovered, being able to do so much as pour a glass of tea).

Being shunned by normal society, however, she had to go away to find elsewhere to live. That's when she found the Nexus City. She now lives there, making a moderate living as a computer analyst, working at home. She still needs to get used to the populace being of many different species, but she figures that she will adjust accordingly. She is a dragon after all.
