World and Origins



In a modern world of magic and technology, of angels, demons, elves, catgirls and so on, humans have - with some exception - always been at the bottom of the food chain. They lack the ability to use magic to shrink their prey and their bodies don't stretch to devour people whole as nearly every other species seems to be capable of doing. Yet humans still have managed to remain the most populace race, making out more than 70% of the total population.
Humans have ever been preyed on by other species and a great many humans take great pleasure in being devoured, even when the predator made it clear that they would not be able or willing to bring them back. With magic there are of course means and ways to bring people back, but they are expensive and it is rare for someone to go through the trouble, even now that times have become more civilized.
Since food is usually plentyful and readily available, vore is rarely seen purely as a means to sustain oneself, even if there are some purists among predatory species that for cultural reasons refuse to eat any food that's not wiggling and squirming as it passes down their gullet. Not all vore is fatal either, some of the less radical predator species only indulge in it for mutual pleasure and release their prey before they're digested, both to save themselves from packing on additional pounds and their prey from becoming those pounds, this has lead to many intimate relations between predators and prey. Non-fatal vore has also found its uses as disciplinary measure, non-human law enforcment often detain criminals and even in schools non-human teachers will often keep people in this special form of detention. With that said, it has to be kept in mind that even with antiacids, vore is never entirely safe and accidents do happen since regurgitating prey is not a skill that every predator is practiced in and sometimes a quick nap has seen a predator waking up with a suspiciously soft belly when forgetting to set their alarm.

Being at the bottom of the food chain, some humans have always looked for ways to change their fate, shake up the status quo and with the advent of genetics finally found a way after identifying several common strands of DNA in near=human species and applied that DNA to a human embryo.
And so the first generation of Meta-humans were created and then the experiments were discontinued as funding ran dry because of the mixed success, only a fraction of the experiments could be counted as a success, some of the children died young and others never showed any apptitude for vore.
Kayla is one of the few successes and after spending the first 10 years growing up closely monitored by doctors, subjected to experiments to test her abilities, she was adopted by two of the scientests who privatly continued monitoring her, but were first and foremost loving parents trying to raise her well.

Growing up as a human with special abilities wasn't always easy, but Kayla took it in stride, in no small part thanks to good parenting. Bigger and stronger than most of her peers, human or non-human, she might have easily become a bully leading other bullies, instead she quickly developed a tendecy to stand up for those weaker than her. A cynical person might call it a hero-complex, others see her as compassionate. Her grades were always okay, even if she sometimes struggled with certain subjects and thought others boring, but an academic career following in the footsteps of her parents had never been her ambition anyways. She always excelled at sports, though being excluded from purely human competition she had to compete with the non-humans, who were often a match for her physical prowess. Most people didn't know what exactly made Kayla special, most just put it down as her being a freak of nature, or perhaps having some giant's blood in her ancestry.
When it came to vore, she sometimes took on other non-human students, sometimes coming out on top, at other times stewing in their gut until a teacher forced her captor to release Kayla as is custom in most schools. Embarassingly Kayla actually found herself enjoying the experience as is normal for a lot of humans. On the pred side of things, Kayla enjoys the experience allaround, but she struggles with releasing her prey to this day and can be a little reluctant about willing prey, even if a lot of friends have offered to help her practice.
After finishing school, Kayla moved a bit from job to job, spending her day in an office didn't feel right, she didn't have a knack for construction and isn't particularly crative or feeling artistic. For a time she worked different part time jobs, as a bouncer, fitness coach, even delivering food when money was tight. She was always valued for her ability to work even with difficult clients, even the most ambitious predators usually think twice in the face of someone of Kayla's stature. She eventually found her calling when one night a guest at a club was looking for their friend, it didn't take a genius to figure out what happened to them, but with a good memory for faces, Kayla recalled a catgirl leaving the club with a squirming gut a few hours earlier. From there she started asking around, sometimes asking with extra emphasis and eventually tracked the catgirl down. Unfortunately it was too late for the woman's friend, but at the very least she managed to return wallet and phone to them as well as give the familiy closure.

Pocketing a nice finder's fee, she started to offer the selfsame service to others and even though she didn't always succeed, she started to earn enough to quit her other jobs and fully commit to these investigations. Some friends suggested that Kayla should join law enforcement, become a police officer, but that didn't really appeal to her in the same way, working independently suited her better.
