During a solar storm over the city of Tokyo, just moments after a massive loss of power took place, a student was inexplicably warped through time.

Arriving some centuries into the future, this stranded, outdated boy would have to find a place for himself in a similar yet frighteningly foreign world. All the people he knew? Dead. The areas in which he had grown up? Demolished and restructured. With nothing but his wits and the clothes on his back, this ‘student’ would have to decide which step to take next.

His goal was a simple one; Kayo wanted to return home. He would take any steps necessary to see his family again, and so, naive as he was, Kayo decided it made the most sense to seek out the police first — or whatever passed for law enforcement in this time. Long story short, Kayo was placed in a high-security transport vehicle headed for the capital; he was to be interrogated, although he was under the assumption that it was simply ‘questioning’.

Had Kayo gone with them, had he answered the questions they so desperately wanted answers to, his story likely would have ended there. Time-travel was the new nuclear arms race, and Kayo had been affected by some unknown particle during his jump. Had they been able to properly analyze this substance, well…

It doesn’t really matter now, because the vehicle never reached its destination. Expecting military secrets or weapons of great value, those who captured Kayo were disappointed to find a boy who knew next to nothing about why he was in a high-security transport vehicle to begin with. Or so he had said — carefully leaving out any mention of time-travel.

That had been one year ago — rather than kill him, the rebels had taken him in, and given him a place in their ranks. While Kayo learned a lot from them, including the art of using many complex forms of combat and espionage technology, their time together wouldn’t last. Taking all the knowledge about this world that he could from them, Kayo left one night without a word — he appreciated what they’d done for him, and promised to repay them one day, but he refused to remain tied to their cause. His aspirations laid elsewhere.

Assuming the persona ‘Anima’, Kayo put every ounce of his creativity and talent into inventing, using every second of his spare time to study and experiment with whatever tech he could get his hands on. Rather than reject the unknown, he became infatuated with it, embraced it. Kayo’s genius was soon apparent, and the boy didn’t take long to find uses for his new equipment.

Hacker, tinkerer, master thief and occasional prostitute with favored customers, by the age of eighteen Anima had become a name known to all within the world of crime, and even some shady corners of the business world. Whether one needed something built, something stolen, or even information only government executives were privy too, they could seek him out and expect to have it done.

A jack of all trades, in one year Kayo had gone from being a nobody to being one of the most expensive, well-known yet puzzlingly mysterious criminals of the decade.

Avoiding the law and making money comes naturally to him, but it only takes one misstep for everything to fall apart.
