Koukuji_Family something something samurais
Long ago, there existed an ancient clan of samurai, both respected and feared for their strength and unique style: The Uronomi Clan. The 'Uronomi Style' of swordplay, rather than leaning on more traditional 'fatal sword strikes', focuses more on subduing the enemy quickly, leaving them vulnerable enough to be... devoured. ...Wait, what?
Yes, samurai of the Uronomi Clan were partially feared because they consumed their enemies whole, as if the fact that you can't spell "Uronomi" without "nom" wasn't enough of a clue. Because of this bizarre practice, the once thriving samurai clan were eventually forced to abandon their ways as society evolved around them, and their teachings faded away into mere legends and rumors. Kimatsu here was born several generations after "Uronomi Style" was discontinued, but her family was still aware of their ancestor's teachings. However, they forbade her from making use of the ancient style, for obvious reasons.
Still, 'Matsu was curious. She had to know. She
wanted to be a samurai and keep Uronomi Style alive. So, she visited every resource she could find: the internet, libraries, even local gossip! But in the end, she mostly came up empty, and what little she did find wasn't enough for her to properly learn. 'Matsu wasn't going to give up, though. If she couldn't learn the original "Uronomi Style", she'd just make a new version instead!
From then on, Kimatsu began her self-imposed samurai training, making sure no one spotted her. The trickiest part was acquiring an actual steel sword, especially one that wasn't sharp enough to, say, slice a limb off. The style is about subduing, not instantly-ending. Over time, though, 'Matsu found herself bearing the next generation of Uronomi. Her heavy motherly figure nearly put an end to her samurai lifestyle, but she merely saw this as a challenge. Her training resumed, inspiring her to adapt her Uronomi style to accomodate her new frame. Not only does that belly of hers become a secondary weapon, but the fact that she's eating for... more than two means that practicing on live targets has more of a purpose.
Her skills continued to sharpen, and all of her training has had quite an effect on her. She's gained a desire for battle. a desire to make the Uronomi Style known to the world again, and to inspire her future children to follow in their mother's footsteps and keep the teachings alive.
...That twig in her mouth doubles as a handy toothpick.
