Kodama is a hermaphroditic, shapeshifting demon. He has two forms: the humanoid form stands over seven feet tall and is very slim. The improbability of him being able to stand upright for any amount of time generally exposes him as a demon. His eyes are pale gold and slitted like a snake's, and he usually wears heavy black makeup on them. His hair is long and whitish silver, reaching nearly to his ankles, and his skin is very pale.

His demon form is larger, reaching thirteen feet on his legs, and six on all fours. His arms and waist are long and thin, with powerful legs to hold him upright or in a crouched position. His fingers and toes end in long, sharp claws, and the feet have dewclaws that extend from the ankles. His skin is the same pale shade, with occasional iridescent, dark red scales at his hips, knees, elbows, and forehead, and a ridge of hooked scales running the length of his spine, down to a long, thin tail that ends in a hooked barb. His hair is the same color and length, with a pair of spiral horns protruding from the top of his head, the same color as his scales. His eyes are all-over gold, and reflect light so they seem to glow. His mouth extends nearly to his ears, allowing his jaw to disconnect to accept whole prey, and is filled with a row of long, pointed teeth, the top canines longer than the rest. His back is adorned with a deceptive pair of silver, feathered wings.

Both forms are very useful to Kodama, and he can switch between them at will, as well as being able to transform certain parts of himself at a time, if he should find himself in need of a sharp grin or luminous eyes without transforming altogether. He resists reversion to his humanoid form too soon after a meal, as any prey inside him retains its volume in the transformation.

Kodama is a smooth talker, with an aristocratic manner of speech that is enough to sway even the most stalwart of humans, and loves to give pain. Depending on his mood, he will either be civil as a James Bond villain to his victims, or horribly sadistic. Usually, it's a healthy mix of the two. He is used to being kept well, living in luxury and being waited upon, usually by a servant he keeps from among his prey. In a magic-tolerant setting, he has command over cold temperatures, as well as the ability to restore a human to a previous state within two hours, even after death. He is pansexual, with an admitted predilection for males.
