I'm ready for my close up now!

Mediaverse, noun: The concept that all fictional realms, realities and universes exist within one massive multiverse. Books, TV shows, movies, plays, video games- all of them are there, somewhere.

Granted, the originals are off limits. There's a wall around them that simply can't be penetrated. That being said, there's millions of mirror, splinter, spinoff, and slightly alternate versions of those realms, so they ARE available for one to travel to.

The problem is this. Media realms tend to have all sorts of interesting things about them- especially the science-fiction and fantasy genre ones. All sorts of trinkets, oddments, doodads, gizmos and whatzits, and a good portion of them can do horrible things to people... or if used really incorrectly, can make an entire plane of reality collapse in on itself.

Recently there was a.... conflict. Wars were fought across realities for the more powerful of these things, and the ensuing chaos affected all of the realities. these powerful items now occasionally and spontaneously leave their home dimensions to end up in places they very much shouldn't, and that creates all sorts of new problems.

Before this catastrophic war, Tess was an Archivist. Her duties were simple- record the major historical events of the Focal Points in already scouted Media Realms. These records were then safeguarded and used to monitor their respective realms, to ensure that using time travel in a given media realm was not used to alter said realm away from it's original history. Such things usually were bad for the inhabitants, and if the changes were drastic enough, the entire reality could collapse in upon itself. Not good.

However, Tess' (new) job is to try and clean up this mess. She has a number of artifacts at her disposal, not the least of which is a repaired, retrofitted TARDIS which was found abandoned and drifting near what was left of the headquarters of the organization that tried to stop the war. They didn't start it, but they ended it, and it didn't end well. Her home dimension is a wasteland; few worlds remain, and space itself is damaging to the few ships that remain. But the war was stopped, and Tess is now trying to patch the holes, stop the objects from hopping around, put them all back, and try to keep any more realities from collapsing.

She's alone, she's lonely, and unfortunately, trouble finds her before she can find it. Still, that doesn't stop her from trying, and the few pieces of gear she has left from her old job, along with the others she's collected along the way do tend to help.

So if you run into her, it might be fun to come along. You never know what'll happen.

Archivist 42's notes on the physics of Realms:

Each plane of reality (known as a Realm) is a self-contained universe. It might be a single area on a planet's surface, or an entire galaxy... or more. Each Realm has only one force within it that also reaches outside of the realm itself. These are Focals.

A Focal is a person, a place, or an object that is plot-centric to that realm. MIB Headquarters, the Noisy Cricket, and Agents Jay and Kay are all examples of Focals from the Men In Black movie franchise Realm.

There are also Splinter Realms. These are almost identical versions of the official, real Realm itself, often indistinguishable from the 'original'. The Archivist Corps only has access to the SPlinter realms, no known method of inter-Realm transport can breach the walls of an official or 'Seed' Realm.

However, any and every Realm has Focals and these Focals give it stability. If one was to destroy or kill enough Focals in a Realm, that Realm would collapse, and that would weaken the metastructural integrity of the Realms around it. If those Realms were weakened first- by destroying some of their Focals- then the collapse of one might cause a chain reaction collapse of another, and so forth, like dominoes. This theory was proven in the last Realm War my own Realm ever fought. One of my instructors went Rogue. He weakened a large chain of Realms, and then set it off by causing my own home Realm to collapse in on itself, and that set the rest off.

The result was devastating. The Law of Conservation of Mass still stands. Matter and energy are finite, and when an entire Realm collapses in on itself, all matter is converted to energy.
The result was the equivalent of a hydrogen bom on a planet's surface... except on a multiversal level. The blast of energy destabilized realities for a fair distance from the epicenter, what used to be the Realm that was my home. Because I was outside the Realm, in Metaspace at the time, I alone survived.

The blast of energy was not as string as it should have been. Seventeen Realms were cascade-collapsed in an instant, and I've got sensor readings from the event. The fact that the explosion was only a tenth of the power it should have been leaves me with only one conclusion: It was used. shunted, absorbed, gathered... I do not know. But the rogue Archivist had been working on a top secret project with some of our best scientists, right up until the end. And since he deliberately engineered the event, I have no choice to believe that this was deliberate.

A number of mediaverse examples spring to mind, the foremost one being from a Game-class universe. The villain, Sephiroth, was going to use a magically-based meteor strike to damage the planet, a living world. the planet would then use much of it's life force to repair the damage... and Sephiroth would absorb this energy, and attempt to become a god. While he failed, the similarities between this plan, and the events leading up to the demise of everyone I knew are startlingly similar.

You'd never guess that beneath that pretty face lies the mind of... a LIBRARIAN!

Skills:
TK (Telekinesis)- Tess can manipulate anything withing (roughly) 30 yards from her body, and this applies in most any direction. Her reach is actually 50 yards, but at the edge of it all she can do is make you tickle or itch, or nudge over a pencil. Her power increases as you get closer to her, and once in the 30 yard range she can pick up smaller people, immobilize most any human-sized opponent, or even 'punch' them if need be. (Ranged melee attacks, sweet!) Despite this, she prefers not to actually use her powers for fighting, and she's not that good in a melee confrontation. That being said....

Swordplay & fencing- ...she's had close to 300 years of sword training and she's very, -very- good. She can even wield 2 swords at once- one in her hands and one in a TK 'hand'. She prefers, however, to simply have a single handed sword in one hand, and make do with that. When sword fighting, she is left-handed ("I know something you do not know... I am not right-handed!") though for most other things she is right-handed. Small wonder she keeps her cane in her left hand all the time.

Gunplay- She is pretty good with a pistol, and is used to having to use one, but as an Archivist, she prefers diplomacy, tact, and words, rather than violence and gunfire, to solve problems. It doesn't usually work out that easily, though.

Knowledge- Tess has most of what's left of the USC Multiversal Archives in her ship; these are the collected history of most every facet of the Multiverse that the USC has scouted out and recorded. Some are incomplete due to a lack of surveys, others due to data loss and data corruption.

Lightning reflexes- Due to the electrical nature of Tess' powers, she has -very- rapid reflexes, and can move almost as fast as the lightning she embodies and wields for a short time. The reflexes aren't much of an issue, but if she consciously attempts to use these inhuman speeds for longer than a few minutes, she'll be very weak, very drained, and very vulnerable until she rests and has a good meal to replenish herself.

Telepathy- Tess can also read minds. Her mental reach, with a few exceptions, is the same as her kinetic reach- 50 yards at the max, when all she'll get is vague generaliziations, rough concepts, and intentions. Closer in she can read surface thoughts, and if she's next to the person she can usually read them like an open book. If she's in physical contact with the person, she can even influence them a bit. However, she prefers to keep her mind closed so as to not listen to those around her, and always asks permission if she needs to enter another person's mind, and she -really- dislikes messing about inside someone else's head.

Sense Focal- Any person, place, or item (big or small) that is important to a Realm is called a Focal. The main character in a movie is a Focal. So would be the main antagonist, as well. Special equipment- even things that are the only one in existence, but are special- are Focals. Tess can sense when she is near a Focal, and roughly how important that Focal is to the Realm she is in at the time.

Equipment:

TARDIS- Refitted for dimensional travel, this recovered time and dimesnion-hopping craft is Tess' home, base of operations, and method of travel. Unlike the classic one from the show, her chameleon circuit works. The rest, however, is as expected; the ship is a living being, and cranky, tempermental, and as prone to strangeness as ever. Despite needing 6 pilots to fly it properly, the fact that she is a TK means she can have as many 'hands' as she needs to reach any and all controls. Aside from that, however, all bets are off.

Nifty! It helps her walk AND is a good weapon! Score!
Tesla Cane- A device of her own making and manufacture, this cane is just that- a steampunk/electropunk-styled cane, used for walking around and such. With the flick of a button, however, the long cane swings up to match the angle of the handle, and electricity will arc around it's length, effectively making it an electrified saber.

A tool belt.... Does this make her like batman?
Tool Belt- Her belt holds a variety of electrical tools and other bits and pieces- solder, pliers, voltmeter/ammeter, power cells, and a random oddment pouch.

Multitool Pack- this roughly basketball sized hovering sphere of brass, steel, glass, and gears is the electropunk equivalent to a swiss army knife. It can do most any task requested of it... provided said tasks are to slow the owner's descent like a parachute, render them temporarily invisible, record the world around it, the usual scifi scanning and analysis toolset, and can be a handy shield in a swordfight, or a small amount of cover in a gunfight.

Misc items:

Random health types, powerups, and other things from a variety of video games. You never know what might save your butt out there.

Picture comments added due to the player's chronic silliness. x.x

"Are you deaf, or just retarded? I'm the goddamn batm- um, librarian!" Amber_Welles' response upon checking the profile over and reading the image comments

NOTES: Tess is an old character. Not in terms of her age in RP (well, not really) But in how long I've had her. She's existed, in one form or another, for almost nine years now. I made her well before coming here, to Eka's. While she's not really made for sex or vore, you can eat her (or try) if you like. I can't guarantee I'll honestly have that much interest in it if you want to try it, and I'll do what I can, but you might be better off looking at my full alt list in my OOC profile. Tess is here for me to see who becomes interested and would like to have a scene or somesuch with her.

Sorry for the long disclaimer.
