For generations, the Cornwall Academy of Swordsmanship has stood as the gold standard in instruction of brave young men and women in the art of the blade. Holding no particular loyalty to any nation, creed, or faith, the family-owned school has trained the sons and daughters of kings and generals for the better part of the last century. The Academy has a reputation for being consummate professionals; so long as prospective student can pay and pass their examinations, they may study. Of course, political considerations may prevent a prospective student from entering the nation in which the school is located, but this is hardly the problem of the Academy. They have no shortage of potential apprentices of all ages.

While most of the academy's instructors are no longer of the Cornwall family, the position of Gran Duello has been handed down from mother to daughter since the founding of the Academy in the year 1143 (In the nigh universally accepted Roshian calendar, of course). The family takes great pride in it's school and goes to great lengths to maintain it's tradition and legacy. For this reason, the women of the Cornwall family almost never marry to avoid messy political entanglements. Due to this making the continuation of the family line difficult due to prevailing religious opinions on copulation, adoption is common and the current eldest daughter is starting to come of age and is facing increasing pressure to produce a potential heir... one way or another.

The third of her name, Lanabeth Illynia Cornwall is the heir-apparent to the Cornwall Academy of Swordplay. She is a bright and talented young girl, bursting with energy and a burning desire to prove that she is worthy of inheriting her mother's title. And like most girls her age, she knows better then her parents and is entirely ready to take on leadership of the school. Just ask her.

Lanabeth has been training with a sword ever since her young hand was capable of grasping one's hilt. Her flirty and flighty exterior hides an unshakable core of self-discipline that has been rigorously drilled into her all of her life... no matter how much she balks at being given orders. Kids her age are always rebellious. Unlike most people in their late teens, Lanabeth actually does have something to prove and that is her worth as a duelist. She has decided, however, that if she is going to prove herself it will be on her own terms and not her mother's.

Thus, the heiress has taken to a number of needlessly dangerous activities. She is living life large, having affairs with young lords her own age by day, running the rooftops and dueling other blade bravos at night, and trawling the slums of the city, daring those of unsavory character to try and rob her. Pity the unknowing fools that have tried, Lanabeth hasn't yet! It has been a grand time thus far, having daring adventures, joining the intrigues of the nobility and the rich, delving into unsavory places, and battling fierce monsters... all in the name of building a foundation for her own legend! In many ways, she is the ideal of the blade bravo... unfailingly courageous, quick of temper, amorously dashing, and not very bright.
