Laney is a part of the Speckled Sky.

It's not particularly surprising to find out that Rinari has had a daughter. It's fairly well known that the town's blacksmith has had many lovers throughout the years. Stories of shadowy figures entering her window during the middle of the night are not uncommon around town.

And yet, this simple fact seems to surprise most people when they hear about it. Is it because Laney is hardly seen around town, much less around her own mother? Is it because Rinari doesn't advertise the fact that she has a daughter? Is it because Laney insists on using a surname that her mother insistently forbids her to use?

At a young age, Laney would wander into the woods while her mother was busy working. Mother of the year, she wasn't. These early rudimentary explorations triggered the inherent predisposition towards swashbuckling and adventure that had been lying dormant in her head, waiting for the day it would finally get dragged up. All of the sudden, Laney wanted to join her mother on her frequent trips to hunt down rare loot. Her mother, naturally, obliged her.

Rinari was impressed by the skill her daughter showed during these excursions. So much so that over the next few years she would begin grooming her little adventuring protege. But her idea of 'training' was just letting her out into the big, bad world on her own, sending her daughter on the quests for rare loot that she herself should have gone on. Laney slowly began to resent doing them, feeling like she was just her mother's packmule, bringing home her materials at the end of the day before heading off on the next quest.

Laney made her intentions known to her mother, long before even as she even announced that she was going to run away to make a name for herself. While it was an idea that her mother wholeheartedly supported, Laney still needed to make it into this big, dramatic moment. Packing up what little possessions she needed to take with her and without a penny in her pocket, Laney left the kingdom at sundown, swearing up and down that she was going to be a famous explorer the next time her mother saw her. She left, taking on the surname Stone, mostly because she thought it sounded cool. She needed a cool name as a famous explorer.

Nowadays, Laney wanders the world, discovering what she wants to do as an explorer and adventurer by herself. Her spunky attitude makes it unmistakable that she is Rinari's child. Most of the time she is trying to scrounge up money for the many explorations she has planned in her head. She firmly believes that she can do anything on her own, so starting out with nothing and working her way up is the ideal for her. Of course, if she's desperate, she'll go and ask for money from mommy to help her with her aspirations.

Having survived into the modern day, Laney was forced to settle down as exploration became a distant hobby, and after she mothered a daughter. Living in the suburbs, Laney is known as the sweet, warm woman who bakes the absolutely best cakes... And known also as the resident MILF. Unlike her mother, almost none of her spunk survived today. But it's in there, somewhere, just waiting for the right thing to revive it and trigger the latent instincts that Laney has neglected.
