Ever feel like you've never quite fit in? Like there's nowhere you belong, and that really, there's no one like you? If so, you either were an angsty teenager(entirely likely) or... well. You might be a changeling.
What, you may be asking, is a changeling? Put simply, a Changeling is someone who looks human, but isn't. More specifically, a changeling is a child of a supernatural bloodline, who, most likely, would not otherwise look human, but for the ritual that made them a changeling. This ritual is performed at birth, and requires the sacrifice of a human child. It makes the occult child assume the form of a human, at which point they are used to replace the human child, granting them a chance at a normal life.
Of course, there are drawbacks to this. Being a supernatural being, one of the Occult, the changeling never quite fits in with humans. They may be ostracized, bullied, and otherwise picked-on, or they may simply be uneasy around people. There's no way to tell. However, there's other issues Changelings have that humans, simply, do not. Humans, after all, don't have the weaknesses of their supernatural ancestry, or(potentially, anyway) the powers of the same.
Sixteen years old, and never quite fitting in, Lauraine is a Changeling. She doesn't know it, but that's what she is. She's never quite felt comfortable around people, and really, tends to be a little bit awkward as a result, but she's a teenager. That's GOT to be what it is, right?
A student at a local prep school, one that, yes, requires the dreaded School Uniform(not that it's ugly, and in fact it looks pretty cute), Lauraine is an honor student, more often than not. She's typically considered a bit of a weirdo, as she's got a few odd mannerisms, but in a large school, even someone like her has managed to make friends! This has made things quite bearable, even if they're not ideal yet.
Typically, Lauraine keeps to herself, when not with her friends. Indeed, it's rather uncommon to see her out and about in places with large groups of strangers, as she seems to get more nervous with so many eyes on her. More often than not, she can be found shut away in her room, or in a library, or somewhere else relatively quiet, or at least comfortable for her in other ways. Malls are often uncomfortable for her, though somehow movie theaters and the like are quite comfortable. Her favorite hangout, though, is a bookstore that sells used books, while she also seems to quite enjoy certain coffee and tea places.
Anything else about her? Well, you can find out on your own. I will note, however, that she is only 5'4, and seems both intimidated by and drawn to larger people. Smaller people, she's only drawn to, seeming especially comfortable around children. Hmn.
