Hee... there you are, sweetie... I've been looking all over for you~

Most everybody know about kitsune. Long-lived, incredibly magical beings with fox-like features. They're said to be marvelous tricksters, capable of frankly astounding feats of magic. Many tales have been told about them, especially in the East. And, most closely related to this particular story, kitsune have many tails, and the number of tails is linked to their age and power, with the most powerful and ancient having nine...

It's generally known and accepted that kitsune gain their tails with age and experience. But, do they simply grow when the time comes... or is there perhaps something more...? Well... in fact, there's one more thing a kitsune ne-MPH!

"Hehehe, silly..." Before your eyes, the kitsune in the picture above appears... save she only has a single tail. The narrator is squirming now in her belly, not that he mattered so much. To you, anyway. The tenderness with which she's stroking his slowly shrinking bulge belies a care for this faceless young man...

She looks to you now, eyes dancing, and licks her lips gently. "Mmm... so, then. There's something most people don't know about us kitsune..." She beams. "All that power, all that magic, such a complicated personality... no newborn could handle that all at once. They'd go mad, or simply destroy the world... so, we kitsune are born in a very special way..."

As she talks, she goes on stroking that bulge tenderly. "See... when I was born, I only had part of my soul... The rest of it was scattered into eight newborn human infants... each born not with a human soul, but part of mine..." She giggles softly as her belly flattens completely. "So... a kitsune doesn't just grow a tail out of nowhere. Instead, when they're old enough and ready... they go and find one of those people who aren't really humans... but one of their tails..."

She smiles, and a second tail now joins the first, waving. "Those kids who were born with part of my soul... that's what they really are. They look human... but they're really just runaway kitsune tails... like that silly thing I just devoured... and now look, I've got my second tail... doesn't he look happy to be back where he belongs?"

... Yes, this is the truth behind the kitsune's many tails. Each tail is a soul, one of eight humans perfectly compatible with the kitsune. When such a human is consumed, their body and soul are taken in and made one with their kitsune... forever losing their human existence and becoming just a long, fluffy, beautiful tail... though their minds remain, able to feel the love and care their kitsune lavish on them...

That is the true nature of the kitsune organization known as the Leash of Tails. While purporting to be a group working for demi-human rights, in fact the members of this group work to help each other find their tails in the wide world of human society... A kitsune can only turn one of their own eight special people into a tail, but each tail gives off an aura that matches perfectly to their kitsune's, letting members home in on their friends' tails even as they search for their own...

And what happens to tails? Each kitsune has their own method, but in one way or another, the body is consumed and converted into the physical flesh and fur of the new tail, while the soul is adhered to the kitsune's along with all their other tails, permanently bound to the tail they have become and only able to feel the sensations of that tail... and of course the presence and emotions of all the other parts of the kitsune's soul...

Of course, kitsune are entirely capable of devouring people other than their tails, for whatever reasons they might find amusing or desirable. Mostly this will involve swallowing the human in question; kitsune, being spiritual beings, subsist on spirit energy, and are capable of consuming the excess that wafts off of a human soul without harming the human at all. Anyone devoured in this way will feel weakened for a while, possibly to the point of falling asleep, but otherwise will be unharmed and eventually released via clean fulltour. (This is NOT soul vore, and the human who is eaten will not have their soul altered or consumed in part or whole.) Kitsune are also capable of putting humans in their tails. What for? What will happen? That's for you to find out~

Lyana: The kitsune in the image above. A sweet two-tail, she's barely past a hundred years of age, but her second tail grew in ages ago, despite the silliness above, and she's now hungrily searching for her third...

Reiko: The de facto leader of the Leash. Well over a thousand years old, a careful count shows she only has eight tails. After searching alone for centuries, Reiko discovered Lyana's second tail, and guided her to it. Realizing their ability to help each other search, Reiko founded the Leash of Tails, lending her immense power to her fellow kitsune while secretly hoping that someday, somehow, one of them will find the one person among Earth's billions who can become her ninth tail...

Senya: The formerly youngest member of the Leash. Barely forty years old, she shouldn't really be trying to get a second tail yet, but that doesn't stop her from keeping an eye out for someone who could become hers! Update: And now she's found it, in Alex_Neveria~

Naya: The group's (currently) lone nogitsune. Only slightly older than Lyana, she's actually a good bit more experienced, and has three tails already. Despite her pitch-black coloring, associated with mean-spirited, hateful kitsune, she's quite cheerful and friendly... though her two extra tails could tell stories about her domineering side...

Ai: A recent addition to the Leash, and even younger than Senya. She's incredibly shy, and literally empathic... one wonders how she'll have the heart to consume her second tail, when she finds them...

Den: Male kitsune don't seem to be as common, but they certainly exist. At the moment, there's a lone male member of the Leash, Den. A friendly, social sort, he'll often conceal his ears and tails in order to mingle perfectly with the humans... but he's also tender, often taking time to form deep relationships with humans despite knowing he'll out live them... especially with his tails. The photo shows him with his sixth tail barely an hour before he consumed her... and a few lovely months after wooing her.

Haruka & Natsuka: Twin kitsune, daughters to Den. (Children of a kitsune and human union are themselves full kitsune, not half.) They're very playful, only about seventy years old, but adorably sweet despite being older than Senya. Twins are even rarer among kitsune than among humans, but being born a twin comes with a rather significant difficulty... all of their tails can only be found in pairs of twins, and both tails of each pair must be tracked down and consumed for either twin to gain their new tail...
Also, they've now both been married to the lucky Ulrich_~!

Yumi: A talented, seductive kitsune who's taken her kind's talent for shifting and illusion to heart. More an ally than a full-on member of the Leash, she has dominated all five of the men she's found bearing her tails, not even bothering to explain to them who they are; she regards herself as a sublime existence and her tails worthy only of punishment for fleeing the Eden of being part of her soul...

Teiji: A youthful kitsune, one of Yumi's quite numerous sons. While a member of the Leash, he's currently attending a foreign school in hopes that one of the other students might prove to be the tail he's missing... Of course, he's been known to do quite a few -other- things with other students... and unlike his mother he is -quite- bisexual~
