Lucy's parents expected a lot from their daughter. They were both upperclass snobs who couldn't handle not being the best. That of course meant Lucy had to be perfect in their eyes.
They made sure she had the most expensive tutors in any subject they could think of. She had to learn multiple instruments, advanced math, modern art and philosophy and political history. Lucy succeded in all of this, but given the resources her parents got her, it didn't require that much skill on her own.
That doesn't mean it was easy though. The stress was maddening. She eventually became an employe at the bank owned by her parents. She's got a low standing job so far, but she is expected to climb the ranks fast enough to replace her parents when they retire.
One day though, she learned something new. She learned how to calm down and relax after meeting
Michelle_Jennings (She had a different surname back then). Michelle taught her how to have fun and enjoy the moment. She didn't need to always focus on her carer and her parents wishes.
When her parents got wind of their daughter dating a mechanic, they couldn't be more dissapointed. She no longer lives with them, since she moved away to live with Michelle, but she still works at that bank. She still wants to show them she can do it.
