Nino is a Lycian! Or well, WAS. When she was still an infant, her family was killed by a woman named Sonia. Under orders of her master, she raised Nino as her own daughter. Nino had a talent for magic. While she was never properly taught, nor could she learn through reading (she was illiterate as she never received an education), she figured it out through copying Sonia. Mimicking her movements and phrases, she could cast spells from most tomes without too too much issue. While she was raised poorly and was very obviously hated by Sonia, Nino had a bright light in her life. She had her step-siblings Lloyd and Linus. Thanks to her mother marrying Brendan and joining the Black Fang, Nino had joined by extension and found joy in spending time with her older siblings.
Of course, a war was brewing. The Black Fang had begun to be manipulated into committing a string of assassinations and general attacks on royalty and marquesses all over the continent and Nino found herself wrapped up in all of this. On a few occassions she was sent out but only as a messenger. She was an unassuming and kind girl, people wouldn't think she'd carry important information or was involved in the conflict at all. And if she disappeared? Sonia wouldn't care. She might even be happy if Nino did mysteriously vanish. The girl would try and help her allies where she could, above and beyond what she was supposed to do. Even nursing Jaffar back to full health after he was horribly injured, despite the rules stating she would have to kill him. Of course, her kind-hearted nature would soon change her life.
Sonia decided to send Nino on an assassination job. Not wanting to disappoint her mother, Nino accepted this new task! What was it? Kill Prince Zephiel. Alone. Her step-father, Brendan and new found friend, Jaffar believed this would be too much for her to do. Not only alone, but as a first mission. Sonia decided to let Jaffar go with Nino and would even praise and show some love to Nino upon her return! The mage eagerly went out to do her job with Jaffar (who was secretly tasked with killing Nino when the job was finished). Of course, Nino couldn't do it. Prince Zephiel wanted his father's acceptance... much like Nino wanted her mother's... Jaffar was on Nino's side. Never was he on Sonia's. He and Nino went to abandon the job and flee the Black Fang when they discovered Sonia had a back-up plan. She had sent Ursula, a fellow mage, to follow through with killing Nino if Jaffar did not. It was at this moment when Lyn, Eliwood, and Hector came into Nino's life. The three defeated Ursula and ended up having Nino join them. She was going to confront her mother, no matter what it takes.
tldr; A kind-hearted mage with a horrible adoptive mother. Former member of an assassin organization. Desperately wants her mother's acceptance.
