Mara is exactly what one fears upon hearing the word "Medusa." A direct descendent of the original monster, Mara's kind went underground long ago, to avoid those foolhearty heroes who were slaying her kind to turn their own enemies to stone.
Though they never truly went away, and in today's day and age, with no other heroes of legend running around, strong enough to take her on, Mara has surfaced from the depths of the earth to have her own fun. She's sinister, twisted, and always looking to add someone to her collection.
Her gaze can indeed turn you to stone, though that's at it's highest potency-to get that sort of treatment, she either finds you irresitable enough to freeze for all time, she's in love with the pose you're in, or your're too much of a threat. No, she often wants to play with her toys first, and as such will paralyze you with a gaze, or a bite-her snake's venom and her look do the same thing. Then she'll either get you into a pose she likes while briefly enjoying your company before finishing the job, or decide you're not worthy of her collection and turn you to lunch instead.
She always will eat you though. Be it freezing you to make you an easy snack, biting and chewing through your petrified body, or pulling your soul to feed herself while keeping your former flesh on display, she'll devour anyone she chooses. Only can the closest of friends be granted the honor of being made stone and alive, with her choosing at her leisure when to give you back the use of your body. Which yes, means there is a cure for her petrification. No, she won't tell you what it is.
