Maribel_Hearn

Maribel Hearn, the other half of a duo of college students who comprise very likely the only humans from Outside aware of Gensokyo's existence. Along with her best friend Usami_Renko, she is one of the two members of the Sealing Club, a club for "necromancers"... well, it's more like the SOS Brigade than anything else, except their leader isn't a clueless reality-warper. There was also that one green-haired girl who used to come by, but neither girl has seen her in a long time. Both are fascinated by magic and the paranormal, though Merry is a bit more easy-going. A bit less grounded and more intuitive than her best friend, she studies relativistic psychology at the same university.

A bit more striking in appearance than her friend, Maribel is definitely of foreign descent, with long blonde hair and quiet blue eyes. She also definitely has a flair for purple, often wearing something more like this when not in summer or being casual. For some reason, this particular set of clothes feel and look very... familiar to her.

As noted, along with Renko she is one of the two members of the Sealing Club. While ostensibly a club for necromancers, in fact the club is their meeting place to research and discuss the supernormal. They are commonly found investigating the paranormal. Maribel is helpful for this, being part of a long-running lineage with strong connections to the supernatural. Their discussions, despite their investigations, often focus around the possibility of other worlds existing, and the means that someone might go to one. The Netherworld, alternate realities, the Moon, Gensokyo...

Yes, Gensokyo. Perhaps you've been wondering what two otherwise seemingly grounded university science students might be doing calling themselves necromancers and pondering about other worlds? Well... there's a bit of a secret behind that one, a secret that Merry has only ever told to her best friend, and of course that green-haired girl they sometimes hypothesize found a way to another world before them.

Simply put... Maribel has seen them. Seen one, anyway. Maribel, you see, has dreams. Dreams in which she walks in another world, one she's come to learn is called Gensokyo. Dreams in which she is a sleepy blonde youkai with a penchant for playing pranks... seeing through her eyes and mind as she toys with her dear friends here and there, watching through a strange violet fissure in the air and seeing events all over the strange realm unfold...

So yes, she's quite aware of Gensokyo, and a number of its denizens, including a somewhat familiar girl with bright green hair. She's shared her dreams with Renko, and nobody else, leaving them the only two humans in the Outside World aware of that other place's existence. Through that blonde-haired woman's eyes, she's also come to know in a limited way of most of the cast, as well... something she put to use in one rather silly weekend with Renko... She seems to have an inkling of a few other worlds linked to Gensokyo as well... nobody's yet really been able to figure out where she and Renko snuck off to during that one culture festival under a full moon.

As for her ability? She does have one, after all, even Renko does, and her connection to Gensokyo is even less solid! So what is it? Well... Borders. She can see them. Not manipulate them, of course, certainly not, that would be an extraordinarily powerful ability, but anywhere she looks she can focus just a bit and see any border she cares to examine. It's certainly helpful when she dreams, letting her see just what her dreaming self is doing to change things so effortlessly.

Beyond that, Maribel is a pretty simple girl. Less shy than simply quiet and careful, interested deeply in matters of the mind... and of course of matters beyond those of the Outside World. She's quite lovely but far from taken, at least presently. Her personality is fairly calm and composed, almost "proper" at times (considering she's likely European in ancestry, even more so), but still gentle and friendly, even if she's a bit shy with people besides Ren.

Of course, those dreams still occupy her waking thoughts as well, making her seem a bit disconnected at times. But after all, who wouldn't be a bit distracted when dreaming of such a fantastic world, knowing it's there for you to just reach out and find... and yet all you really have to go on is the single name "Yukari Yakumo"...
