The concept of nature vs nuture has always been in debate on which has the greater influence on how a person develops. Everyone is different and thus responds differently to the same stimuli. Some may find it natural that a boy would grow to become attracted to other boys if they attend an all boys school, others may find it unnatural. For those that have no clear concept of identity such as Miku, they latch on to the first sign of something definite and stable. Miku was thought to have been born a boy but as time passed and he went through puberty, he started to grow in other areas.

Miku grew up in an all boys boarding school, one that taught primary school all the way to high school. While Miku was always a little on the quiet side, he fit in amongst his peers and was respected as a fellow boy. At least until his breasts started to grow and 'he' grew more feminine in appearance. His voice began to take on a more noticeable change to a very feminine tone.

Growing up in a school that had a quirky principal that emphatically enforced the belief that boys should be educated in sensitivity, half of the school population had to crossdress. At any given time, half of the student body was dressed and treated as girls despite their obvious male sex. In a culture such as this, especially for those that grew up doing it, it was natural for some to identify as 'girls' and addressed as such. Some took to it like a fish to water while others were more confused and resistant to their male identity being challenged. These 'girls' often found a love of crossdressing for one reason or another and were the ones always found in female clothes even on days they were allowed to be 'boys' again.

Miku is one of those 'girls'. It made sense given that he only grew more feminine as time moved on since puberty started. In every way save genitals and identity, Miku was a female but that didn't stop her from being a boy. Even if he had breasts, wore skirts and girls' underwear and people treated him like a girl, he was still a boy...maybe.
